If you enjoyed watching the NBA in the late 1990s to early 2000s, this league is perfect for you. There are plenty of noteworthy players worth watching for nostalgia, while most of them can still get it done on the basketball court as well.
In addition to the talented players on each roster, the coaches are even bigger stars with Julius Erving, Gary Payton and Charles Oakley among those leading the three-on-three squads.
"I think it's going to be incredibly good. The games are exciting, the players are still talented and they're fun to watch," Clyde Drexler, Hall of Fame player and coach of the Power said of the new league, per the Associated Press (via USA Today).
Iverson also serves as a player, captain and coach for 3's Company, which means he will get some minutes on the court, although he will also spend a lot of time deferring to the rest of the men on the roster.
The games are untimed in a first-to-60 format, although you have to win by two. There are also some unique twists, including a four-point shot from a long distance.
It was more than enough to keep a full crowd engaged throughout the day of action:
Adding in noteworthy celebrities sitting courtside, there is nearly as much hype as the NBA playoffs. It certainly blows the NBA regular season out of the water, at least in intrigue, if not in the level of play.
Without many sporting events to compete with over the next couple of months, the Big3 could be an exciting addition throughout the summer.
