Adam Silver Expects Guidelines in Place Next Season to Regulate Player Rest
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver anticipates the league having new guidelines for player rest before next season.
Silver made the pronouncement during an appearance on ESPN Radio's NBA pregame show prior to Friday's Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers (via ESPN's Marc Stein).
Per Stein, Silver said the rest guidelines "will strongly recommend" players sit during home games and prevent resting "multiple starters on the same night."
Player rest became a particularly hot topic of conversation in March when the Cavaliers rested LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love prior to a Saturday primetime ABC game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Silver sent a memo to all 30 NBA team owners two days after that incident calling rest "an extremely significant issue for our league," via USA Today's Jeff Zillgitt and Sam Amick.
To help curb the issue, Silver told reporters in April the league's season would start one week earlier and teams would have their number of back-to-back games reduced from 16 to 14.
