Browns Reportedly Spoke to 3 Teams About Trading Up from 12th Pick in NFL Draft
With the 2017 NFL draft just two days away, the Cleveland Browns are trying to trade up into the top eight of the first round, NFL Network's Michael Silver reported.
According to Silver, "at least three teams in the top eight have been contacted by the Browns and discussions have taken place about the prospect of moving up."
Should the Browns move up from the 12th overall selection, the aim would almost certainly be getting one of the top quarterbacks available.
Edge-rusher Myles Garrett is the presumptive favorite to go first overall. Bleacher Report's Matt Miller and Doug Farrar both listed Garrett as the top pick in their most recent mock drafts.
Should Cleveland take Garrett, there's no guarantee Mitchell Trubisky or Deshaun Watson would be available by the time the Browns are picking again at No. 12.
The San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, New York Jets and Los Angeles Chargers all need a quarterback to some extent, and any one of the four could take Trubisky or Watson in the top eight. Those teams could also trade down, allowing another team to swoop in and select a QB.
The MMQB's Albert Breer didn't discount the possibility the Browns select Trubisky and Garrett:
That could be an option for general manager Sashi Brown should any trades fall through and Cleveland is still stuck with the 12th pick.
Last year, the Browns helped shake up the first round of the draft when they traded the second overall pick to the Philadelphia Eagles. Once again, Cleveland is in a position to potentially alter Day 1 of the draft in a big way.
