Stephen Curry Reaches Multiple Milestones with Offensive Explosion
Superstar point guard Stephen Curry powered the Golden State Warriors to a 120-111 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday by dropping 42 points, 11 assists, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Curry's offensive outburst also pushed him past multiple milestones. By knocking down eight three-pointers in the contest, he became just the 10th player in NBA history to record at least 1,900 three-point makes, per NBA.com. The 29-year-old sharpshooter sits just 19 behind Joe Johnson for ninth on the all-time three-point list and 1,067 behind Ray Allen's all-time mark of 2,973.
In addition to his achievements beyond the arc, Cury joined five other players in totaling 13,000 career points as a member of the Warriors. Nate Thurmond is the next target on Curry's franchise scoring list, owning 13,191 career points with the club. Wilt Chamberlain possesses the top spot by far (17,783), ahead of second-place Rick Barry by 1,336 points.
Curry finished last season with his highest outputs in both points (2,375) and three-point makes (402). He's posted his second highest totals in the respective categories this season but will not near his career highs from a year ago. With only three games remaining in the season, Curry doesn't have a realistic shot at matching his scoring output from his last campaign.
However, he and the Warriors are peaking heading into the playoffs en route to their third consecutive top seed in the Western Conference. Golden State has won 13 straight games following Wednesday's victory, separating itself by 4.5 games from the second-place San Antonio Spurs. The club will also regain the services of superstar Kevin Durant on Saturday after he missed over a month due to a knee injury. Now healthy, the Warriors will be difficult for any club to beat in the postseason.
