Marshon Lattimore, Gareon Conley at Ohio State Pro Day 2017: Highlights and More

Timothy RappMar 23, 2017

The Ohio State Buckeyes held their Pro Day on Thursday, with nine NFL head coaches, seven general managers and 115 total NFL personnel in attendance, per Chase Goodbread of NFL.com. And many of those folks likely were there to see cornerbacks Marshon Lattimore and Gareon Conley in action.

Those coaches in attendance—Bill Belichick, Sean Payton, Mike Tomlin, Marvin Lewis, Jim Caldwell, Todd Bowles, Hue Jackson, John Harbaugh and Mike Mularkey—didn't get to see either Lattimore or Conley run or do any testing, though that didn't come as a huge surprise.

Both pairs did drills, however, per Bill Landis of Cleveland.com:

Landis also shared Lattimore showing off his ball skills:

Doug Lesmerises of Cleveland.com showed video of Conley doing the same drill:

Neither player would have had much to gain by doing any additional testing. Lattimore was one of the most impressive performers at the NFL Scouting Combine, running a 4.36 40-yard dash and adding a 38.5" vertical. Conley didn't post those eye-opening numbers, but he still managed a solid 4.44 40-yard dash and 37.0" vertical.

Both have impressed on the field and on film, too.

"He's close to perfect from a speed and instincts standpoint," an unnamed scout told B/R's Matt Miller about Lattimore. "We'll see what our docs say, but he's the best corner in the class on tape."

Indeed, what the docs say is the biggest concern about the talented corner. As Miller noted, "scouts are whispering about the years of hamstring injuries in Lattimore's past." Lattimore missed all of 2014 with hamstring issues and part of 2015, the only blight on an otherwise impressive resume.

That hasn't hurt his draft stock too much, however. In his latest mock draft, Miller projected Lattimore to go No. 7 overall to the Los Angeles Chargers. In that same mock, Miller projected Conley to land at No. 15 with the Indianapolis Colts.

Conley may not flash from an athletic standpoint as much as Lattimore, but he was incredibly productive last year. According to Pro Football Focus, he gave up "just 14 receptions for 159 yards, and an NFL passer rating of 14.0, best in the nation, on throws into his coverage in 2016."

Like Lattimore, however, he isn't without question marks. The main concern when it comes to Conley is whether he was simply a one-year wonder—he wasn't nearly as impressive before 2016, as PFF noted—or if he naturally progressed and will continue to grow into a top option at the position.

With a huge contingent of NFL head coaches and front office personnel present at Ohio State's Pro Day, it's pretty clear that plenty of folks were interested in gaining more insight into the skills and questions that both Lattimore and Conley will bring to the table.
