Serge Ibaka, Robin Lopez Suspended 1 Game for Throwing Punches During Fight
Toronto Raptors forward Serge Ibaka and Chicago Bulls center Robin Lopez have each been suspended for one game after they were involved in a physical altercation during the Raptors' 122-120 win at Air Canada Centre Tuesday night.
Bleacher Report's Howard Beck relayed the league's official statement, which includes notice of a $15,000 fine for Raptors assistant coach Jamaal Magloire:
The fracas, which featured both Ibaka and Lopez throwing punches, occurred in the third quarter of Tuesday night's clash:
As far as the suspensions are concerned, Lopez will miss the Bulls' game against the Detroit Pistons Wednesday night, while Ibaka is scheduled to be absent for the Raptors' showdown against the Miami Heat Thursday evening.
Incidentally, both of those games could have significant bearing on the race for the Eastern Conference's eighth and final playoff spot.
The Heat moved into the No. 8 spot Tuesday night by virtue of a win over the Phoenix Suns and the Pistons' loss to the Brooklyn Nets, and they're now primed to square off against a shorthanded Raptors club that will be without Ibaka and Kyle Lowry (wrist).
The Bulls, meanwhile, are two games back of the Heat and will have to make do sans Lopez, who has operated as the team's primary rim protector all season long.
If Andre Drummond can suit up for the Pistons after experiencing some minor knee pain Tuesday night, he could be in for a monster evening.
