Recap
UCF 63, Illinois State 62
A bizarre finish helped Central Florida knock off the last remaining No. 1 seed in the NIT field.
UCF took over the lead with just under two minutes remaining on an and-1 play by A.J. Davis. Mistakes from both sides kept the score at 61-60 until the final seconds, with Illinois State having the chance to win.
A foul put MiKyle McIntosh at the free-throw line with four seconds remaining, and he hit both to give the home team the lead. However, McIntosh then fouled B.J. Taylor with just over a second left, and Taylor knocked down both to win the game for UCF.
Orlando mayor Buddy Dyer was happy about the performance:
Illinois State dominated the first half, leading by 18 points early and holding a 36-23 advantage at halftime. However, the visitors were the better team from then on, with Taylor lifting the squad with 22 points.
Tacko Fall finished with eight points and 14 rebounds as the Knights handed Illinois State its first home loss of the season.
UT Arlington 85, Akron 69
UT Arlington remained undefeated at home this season thanks to a dominant performance against Akron.
The Mavericks took a 13-point lead into halftime and didn't stop there, piling it on while getting up as many as 31 points. A late charge by Akron cut the final margin to 16, but it was clearly a one-sided effort throughout the game.
Six different players finished in double figures for UT Arlington, which shot 53.2 percent from the field and 12-of-29 from beyond the arc. Kaelon Wilson led the way with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
Erick Neal was also a big part of the success with 13 points, nine assists, three steals and four rebounds.
Jimond Ivey tried to help for Akron with 14 points and eight rebounds, but it wasn't enough to keep things close on the road.
Illinois 71, Boise State 56
Illinois will remain the only top-three seed still alive in the NIT after its 15-point win over Boise State.
The matchup was close in the early going, with Boise State actually leading by one at halftime. The second half remained a back-and-forth battle, and the Illini trailed 50-49 with under 10 minutes remaining.
However, the home squad took over from there and ended the game on a 22-6 run in what became an easy second-round victory for Illinois.
Malcolm Hill didn't have his best game, only scoring 13 points on 4-of-11 shooting. Fortunately, the rest of the squad picked up the slack, including Tracy Abrams with 18 points. Leron Black finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
Although Chandler Hutchinson looked good in the first half, his 17 points were not enough to help keep Boise State's season alive.
