No. 10 Oklahoma State vs. No. 7 Michigan
Get ready for points, and lots of them.
The Michigan Wolverines and Oklahoma State Cowboys rank fifth and first in KenPom.com's adjusted offensive efficiency, respectively, and they are primed to erupt when Friday's first game tips off.
And when it comes to the Wolverines, all eyes figure to be trained on senior guard Derrick Walton Jr.—who dropped 29 points in a Big Ten tournament semifinal win over Minnesota and 22 points in Michigan's victory over Wisconsin for a conference title.
"Of late, I mean, he’s 20 points per game in the Big Ten tournament," Cowboys head coach Brad Underwood said, per UMHoops.com's Dylan Burkhardt. "He’s doing it in just about every fashion, transition. He’s doing it in the half core. He’s hit jump shots. He’s finishing at the rim."
The Cowboys, however, are not short on star power.
Jawun Evans leads a pack of three Oklahoma State double-figure scorers, and he'll enter Friday's tilt averaging 19 points per game on 44.1 percent shooting from the field and 38.0 percent shooting from three.
However, if Oklahoma State can't tighten up the screws and pressure Michigan after ranking 136th in KenPom's adjusted defensive efficiency, its tournament stay could be short-lived.
No. 11 Rhode Island vs. No. 6 Creighton
There's a reason why this game is listed as even in Las Vegas.
The Rhode Island Rams have won eight games in a row, including an Atlantic 10 title game triumph over the VCU Rams, and they're finally starting to live up to their preseason billing as a ranked team in the Associated Press poll.
Conversely, the Creighton Bluejays are coming off a loss in the Big East title game and have dropped five of their last nine games overall.
That's good news for the Rams, who have the depth and defensive aptitude necessary to disrupt a Bluejays team that's failed to find a groove with point guard Maurice Watson Jr. out for the season.
Specifically, the Rams figure to roll out a pressure defense that attempts to limit a perimeter attack led by stud wing Marcus Foster.
As Sports Illustrated's Luke Winn noted: "Dan Hurley's team plays extended, pressure man-to-man, with hard close-outs on the catch, help-side defenders often staying glued to shooters and switches on high ballscreens."
Also consider that Rhode Island ranks third in the nation with 201 blocks on the season, and it should be able to limit big man Justin Patton enough to bring an upset into view.
No. 10 Wichita State vs. No. 7 Dayton

If the Wichita State Shockers take home a win Friday night, don't consider it an upset.
Although they're trotting into the tournament as a No. 10 seed, the Shockers were woefully under-seeded by the selection committee—and their status as six-point favorites confirms as much.
Although Wichita State plays in the relatively unheralded Missouri Valley Conference, it established itself as one of the nation's steadiest teams en route to a conference title and 30-4 record.
Entering tournament play, the Shockers rank sixth overall in KenPom's overall rankings, with adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency marks that sit in the top 20.
That said, the Dayton Flyers shouldn't be overlooked.
Archie Miller led his team to a 24-7 finish that included a 15-3 record in Atlantic 10 play, and the Flyers bolstered their resume with wins over Rhode Island (twice), VCU and Vanderbilt—all of whom ranked inside the RPI top 50.
So while the Shockers will be the trendy pick, don't be surprised if the Flyers give them all they can handle in a game that goes down to the wire.
