ACC Tournament 2017: Quarterfinal Scores, Updated Bracket, Semifinal Schedule

Adam WellsMar 9, 2017

The 2017 ACC tournament continues Thursday as the quarterfinals bring the conference's top four teams—North Carolina, Florida State, Notre Dame and Louisville—into the fold for the first time.

In terms of marquee value, the best matchup of the day features Louisville against Duke for a trip to the semifinals. Virginia, which finished sixth in the ACC, rides a four-game winning streak into its game against Notre Dame following a four-game skid.

There isn't a deeper conference in America than the ACC. The conference tournament will showcase the talent and potential that will be present when the NCAA tournament field is announced Sunday.

Florida State 74, Virginia Tech 68

The Florida State Seminoles eventually wore down the Virginia Tech Hokies to earn a 74-68 win and their first trip to the ACC tournament semifinals since 2012.

Virginia Tech held a 35-33 lead at halftime and was doing a good job of controlling the pace, keeping Florida State's fast-paced offense at bay.

The Seminoles were able to win despite a horrible 18.8 percent from three-point range. Jonathan Isaac helped their cause with a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.

Florida State can't afford to have another bad shooting day on Friday with a better opponent waiting, but this game did show how well head coach Leonard Hamilton's bunch overcomes adversity by ramping up the defensive intensity.

Duke 81, Louisville 77

The Duke Blue Devils overcame a 12-point deficit in the second half to knock off the Louisville Cardinals 81-78.

Duke was able to survive thanks to some self-inflicted wounds from Louisville. The Cardinals went just 15-of-26 from the free-throw line, leaving easy points on the floor to earn an early trip home before Selection Sunday.

Luke Kennard, who finished with a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds, was fantastic down the stretch to bring Duke back from a 61-49 deficit with 13 minutes to play. His three-pointer capped off a 15-3 run to tie the game at 64.

Kennard scored 10 straight points for the Blue Devils over four minutes late in the second half.

The win sets up a third matchup between Duke and North Carolina, who split the regular-season series with each team winning on its home floor.

North Carolina 78, Miami 53

Holding just a five-point lead at halftime, the North Carolina Tar Heels steamrolled the Miami Hurricanes in the second half to secure an easy 78-53 victory to start its run in the ACC tournament.

The Tar Heels' starting lineup did most of the heavy lifting with 61 of their 78 points. Isaiah Hicks led the way with 19 points, including 9-of-9 shooting from the free-throw line.

In a losing effort, Miami's Bruce Brown did his part with 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting. The rest of the Hurricanes roster combined to make 10 field goals against North Carolina's defense.

Head coach Roy Williams has the Tar Heels on fire now with six wins in their last seven games, and four of those wins came by at least 18 points.

Notre Dame 71, Virginia 58

Bonzie Colson posted a double-double and was one of four Notre Dame players in double figures in the Irish's 71-58 win over Virginia.

Colson finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds, helping Notre Dame pull away in the second half. Matt Farrell had 14 points, while V.J. Beachem and Steve Vasturia had 12 points apiece. The Irish attempted 25 free throws compared to just 12 for Virginia.

The Cavaliers were held to 38.6 percent shooting and got 25 points from their starting lineup. Darius Thompson and Devon Hall led the way with 12 points.
