Trail Blazers vs. Timberwolves Postponed Due to Slick Floor Conditions
Indoor basketball games aren't supposed to be impacted by the conditions like their baseball and football counterparts, but that wasn't the case for Monday's contest between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Portland Trail Blazers.
The Timberwolves announced the game was postponed, and Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune noted it would be rescheduled. Jon Krawczynski of the Associated Press said there is ice underneath the floor in Minnesota's Target Center that was used for a Disney show and hockey tournament.
Jason Quick of CSNNW.com added, "Condensation from high humidity is causing slick spots around edge of court. They've lowered arena temperature and cleared court to mop."
Krawczynski captured some of the mopping before the scheduled game and said the floor had gotten worse since the Timberwolves' morning shootaround:
Minnesota head coach Tom Thibodeau addressed the situation, via the Timberwolves:
Portland big man Meyers Leonard called the court "slicker than snot," per Quick.
CSN Northwest shared an interview with Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard regarding the conditions:
Kevin Pelton of ESPN listed April 2 and 3 as potential makeup dates, adding, "Any other date would result in one of the teams playing a back-to-back-to-back."
This was set to be an important showdown in the battle for the Western Conference's No. 8 seed. Entering play Monday, Portland was 1.5 games behind the Denver Nuggets, while the Timberwolves were three games back.
The Trail Blazers beat Minnesota on New Year's Day, but Monday's canceled game is one of three remaining head-to-head showdowns between the two sides.
