Brian Scalabrine, Josh Childress, Larry Hughes Among Additions to BIG3
The BIG3 basketball league added another handful of former NBA players Monday, as it announced Brian Scalabrine, Josh Childress, Larry Hughes, Ivan Johnson and Reggie Evans will join the draft pool.
The five players join a list of past greats that includes Hall of Famers Allen Iverson, Gary Payton and Clyde Drexler, who are involved in the league as players or coaches. The BIG3 plans on announcing new additions each Monday prior to the draft.
Announced in January, the BIG3 is a professional three-on-three basketball league co-founded by Ice Cube and Jeff Kwatinetz. The league is slated to begin its inaugural season in June. Most of the draft-eligible roster consists of former NBA talent. Eight teams in total, each featuring five players and one coach, will compete.

"This is a great opportunity to market," Rick Barry said of the BIG3, per Adi Joseph of For The Win. "Take the NBA, it was always a great product but was never marketed properly until David Stern got there along with Rick Welts. It's the same with BIG3. If marketed properly, it could be a huge success."
Scalabrine, 38, last played in the NBA for the Chicago Bulls during the 2011-12 season. Affectionately known as the White Mamba, Scalabrine averaged 3.1 points and 2.0 rebounds per game in his 11 NBA seasons.
Childress, 33, currently plays for SAN-EN NeoPhoenix, a professional team in Japan. An eight-year NBA veteran, Childress last played for the New Orleans Pelicans during a four-game stint in 2013-14. He's perhaps most famous for leaving the NBA in his prime for a contract with Greek outfit Olympiacos Piraeus.
Hughes, 38, is the most accomplished NBA player of the bunch announced Monday. He played 13 NBA seasons for eight teams, starting 509 games and earning a first-team All-Defensive selection in 2005. Taken eighth overall in the 1998 draft, Hughes finished with averages of 14.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.
Johnson, 32, is a forward for Sagesse Club of the Lebanese Basketball League. His NBA career consisted of only two years with the Atlanta Hawks, but he is a controversial international figure. The Philippine Basketball Association briefly banned Johnson for life over comments he made during a game. That ban was later reduced to one year after Johnson apologized.
Evans, 36, is the most recent NBA player of the bunch. He finished his 13-year career with the Sacramento Kings in 2015. The rebound machine averaged 4.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game for his career.
The current list of draft-eligible players consists of Childress, Evans, Hughes, Johnson and Scalabrine, Latrell Sprewell, J.R. Rider, Earl Boykins, Brian Cook, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, Kenny Anderson, Smush Parker, Jamario Moon, Ruben Patterson, Etan Thomas, Marcus Banks, Keith Bogans, Derrick Byars, Shane Heal, Mike James, Voshon Lenard, Rashad McCants, Lee Nailon, Eddie Robinson, Xavier Silas, Ndudi Ebi, Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Lawrence Moten, Andre Owens and James White.
