Kansas finished off its regular season with triumphs over Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, the latter proving a showcase for Player of the Year candidate Frank Mason III. The senior point guard had 27 points, nine assists and eight rebounds, helping lead Bill Self to his 13th straight conference championship.
Louisville, Butler and Florida went sliding down after losses to unranked opponents. Rick Pitino's Cardinals saw their defense fall apart in an 88-81 loss to Wake Forest. John Collins had 25 points and 11 rebounds, and the Demon Deacons got 46 points from their bench, including 20 from Keyshawn Woods.
"We've been doing this type of stuff all year, going up on teams, playing close with teams," Collins said, per the Associated Press (via ESPN.com). "Today we got up and closed it out against a very good team. It shows progress for us. It shows we're moving in the right direction at a very good time."
Vanderbilt scored 42 second-half points in its 73-71 upset win over Florida. The Commodores trailed by 12 points at one juncture but held the Gators to just five made threes and had four of their five starters in double figures. Luke Kornet led the way with 24 points and knocked down four free throws in the final minute.
"We're definitely playing our best basketball right now, which is when you want to be playing your best ...," Bryce Drew said, per the Associated Press (via ESPN.com). "I'm biased. I think we should be in. We've won nine of our last 12, and five of those wins are against teams that are going to be in. There are a lot of things hopefully going our way."
Butler may have helped push Seton Hall into the field of 68, as the Pirates pulled off a 70-64 win on Butler's home floor. Desi Rodriguez, Angel Delgado and Khadeen Carrington combined for 58 points; Delgado finished with 20 points and 16 rebounds.
"Obviously, this is a disappointing loss on senior day," Butler coach Chris Holtmann said, per the Associated Press (via ESPN.com). "We really wanted this one for our players and for our fans. I thought in the last seven minutes, we settled for things on offense. We couldn't get loose balls, and Delgado is a monster. We left him open at the rim too many times."
Eleven Top 25 teams lost overall, but Miami was the only ranked team to drop both of its games. The Hurricanes dropped road trips to Florida State and Virginia Tech.
Maryland replaces Miami at No. 25 as the only new team in the final regular-season poll. Butler and Florida State tied for the biggest drop with five spots, while no team moved up in the rankings more than three places.
