The NBA's Christmas Day slate is underway, and Nike has some gifts to wake up excited about.
This Christmas is special, as LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Carmelo Anthony will each debut the Nike LeBron 14, Nike Kyrie 3 and Jordan Melo M13, respectively.
Craig Zanon, vice president and general manager of Nike Global Basketball, told Bleacher Report:
Inspired by the excitement around the games, Nike started releasing special colorways and styles for our signature athletes on Christmas years ago. Immediately, we saw incredible energy in the marketplace, with consumers clamoring for more and waiting to see what Nike would do next. This year we decided to shake it up. For the first time in our history, we're offering not just new styles, but we're debuting actual new basketball shoes on Christmas. For sneaker fans, on Christmas Day, the gifts just keep coming.
For James, it's all about cushioning and lockdown.
The Nike LeBron 14 maximizes flexibility in the upper and provides full-length Zoom Air cushioning. The 14 is a much sleeker shoe than past models and provides a lighter feel while also offering lockdown support. The Nike LeBron 14 features a dual-zone composite upper that utilizes engineered laser perforation. The shoe also includes a dynamic midfoot strap, utilizing auxetic shapes for a natural stretch that helps lock the foot into place.
James has built a relationship with his designers over the years, and they came up with the Nike LeBron 14 together.
The Kyrie 3 is designed for Irving's speed and quickness, with optimal traction and forefoot stability. Both James and Irving have unique specifications that were addressed in their shoes; the designers also made each shoe versatile enough for players across a variety of sizes and skills.
The Nike Kyrie 3 also focuses on cushioning since Irving uses his feet to beat his opponents, and that's a key part of his game that translates to athletes around the world. Irving's style of play requires a shoe that allows him to cut on a dime while also providing cushioning to make those cuts throughout games.
The Melo M13 was built with comfort and support in mind. A rubber outsole and modified traction pattern enhance the shoe's grip for quick cuts and stop-and-go starts. For the first time, the Melo M13 features the Jordan Brand's FlightSpeed technology and utilizes an injected phylon midsole.
Anthony's shoe is all about lightweight protection and responsiveness, and the Kurim and mesh upper provide durability to withstand the rigors of the game.
