Blake Griffin, Jimmy Butler Take on 'Space Jam' Monstars in Jordan Ad
In Nike's latest Jordan Brand commercial, Blake Griffin and Jimmy Butler fight to save basketball from the game's scariest superteam: the Monstars.
When the Space Jam villains return to take ownership of whichever courts they please, some brave ballers seek the help of Bugs Bunny, who recruits Griffin to the cause.
Michael Jordan, star of the 1996 film, got his wish and passed down his Tune Squad jersey to the Los Angeles Clippers forward. He stayed loyal to his brand months ago by pegging Griffin as his preferred choice to star in a sequel:
According to the Hollywood Reporter's Rebecca Ford, a second installment is in the works with LeBron James joining the Looney Tunes.
The Nike ad takes some not-so-subtle shots at the Golden State Warriors, having Butler establish the alien superteam as villains before another narrator says, "Forget the Death Lineup, this is the Apocalypse Lineup."
Perhaps Butler is redirecting his frustration caused by the real NBA giants when sharing his disgust of the Monstars. Facing the Warriors is still more unfair than dealing with mutant versions of Muggsy Bogues and Shawn Bradley.
