Shelden Williams Files for Divorce from Candace Parker: Details and Reaction
November 9, 2016
Former NBA lottery pick Shelden Williams has filed for divorce from reigning WNBA Finals MVP Candace Parker, according to TMZ.
Williams reportedly cited irreconcilable differences in the divorce documents after the couple separated in August.
Williams also reportedly filed for joint custody of the couple's seven-year-old daughter and is seeking spousal support.
The Atlanta Hawks selected the former Duke Blue Devils standout fifth overall in the 2006 draft, and he played for seven teams over six seasons. Williams last appeared on the NBA hardwood during the 2011-12 campaign, when he suited up for the then-New Jersey Nets.
Parker, meanwhile, is a three-time WNBA All-Star, two-time MVP and former Rookie of the Year. Most recently, the 30-year-old averaged 19.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 46.9 percent from the field during the Los Angeles Sparks' nine-game postseason run, which culminated in the WNBA title.
