NFL Power Rankings: Initial Post-Sunday Breakdown Ahead of Week 10

Scott PolacekNov 7, 2016

Fans got an extensive look at the rampant parity across the NFL during Sunday's Week 9 slate—unless they were watching the Cleveland Browns or San Francisco 49ers.

While the Dallas Cowboys destroyed the Browns by 25 and the New Orleans Saints put up 41 points in an 18-point victory over the 49ers, the rest of Sunday's games were decided by 10 points or less.

Even the 2-6 Jacksonville Jaguars lost by a mere five points to the 6-2 Kansas City Chiefs and had multiple opportunities to win the game.

The fact that one of the league's worst teams can hang with one of the league's best underscores the narrow margin of error in most NFL games. That makes creating separation between them difficult, although the cream is slowly rising as the postseason approaches.

With that in mind, here is a look at the power rankings following Sunday's action before looking ahead to Week 10's must-see game:

Week 10 Game to Watch: Seattle Seahawks at New England Patriots

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson said the Week 10 showdown with the New England Patriots is "just another game on the [schedule]" in an interview with NFL Media's Brooke Cersosimo, but that is not the case.

The game stands out on the Week 10 slate because it is a Super Bowl XLIX rematch between two teams currently in first place.

Seattle is 4-2-1 and leading the NFC West, while New England is 7-1 and atop the AFC East. An eventual meeting in this season's Super Bowl is certainly still in play, and the two sides will look to garner some momentum heading into the stretch run with a quality victory.

New England's 28-24 win in Super Bowl XLIX was largely memorable because the Seahawks had the chance to take the lead late in the game but elected to throw near the goal line instead of handing it to Marshawn Lynch. Malcolm Butler picked off Russell Wilson's pass and clinched the Patriots victory.

The schedule works against Seattle in this year's clash considering it will be playing on a short week after Monday night's game against the Buffalo Bills. New England will be coming off its bye and should be well-rested before the home game.

The Seahawks also have to travel across the country to New England during that short week.

That isn't the only concern for the Seahawks. According to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, Wilson has dealt with knee, ankle and pectoral injuries this season. His health concerns are part of the reason the Seahawks were 23rd in the league in yards per game and 29th in points per game entering play Sunday.

Wilson has just one game with more than 300 passing yards this year, and his season high for rushing yards is 16. Part of what makes Wilson so dangerous is that ability to run, and it hasn't been there this year.

Now he will face a Patriots defense that was third in the league in points allowed per game entering play Sunday.

Seattle has one of the best defenses in the league on the other side, but the Patriots offense has been nearly unstoppable since Tom Brady returned from his Deflategate suspension. They are averaging 34 points per game with a perfect 4-0 record in that span, with double-digit victories in each contest.

Brady is posting just shy of 330 passing yards per game and has 12 touchdown passes to zero interceptions.

Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer predicted Brady will win MVP even with the four-game suspension: "Brady has managed to improve despite his age and four-game suspension. He's now rolling out of the pocket and throwing darts with more accuracy than ever. If Brady has a notable weakness, it's the deep ball, and so far this season, he's been precise on his bombs."

Between the schedule disadvantages, a red-hot Brady and a struggling offense, Seattle will lose the Super Bowl rematch as well.

Prediction: Patriots 24, Seahawks 13
