Westbrook Opens Season with Incredible 3-Game Run of Production

Bleacher Report MilestonesNov 2, 2016

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook has been spectacular early in the 2016-17 campaign, becoming the first player since Magic Johnson in 1982-83 to record a pair of triple-doubles within his team's first three games of the season, per NBA.com/Stats.

After coming up just one assist short in OKC's opener, Westbrook put up 51 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in Friday's win over the Phoenix Suns. He added 33 points, 12 boards and 16 assists in Sunday's victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.

The trio of impressive stat lines makes him the first player in NBA history to record 100 or more points, 30 or more rebounds and 30 or more assists within his team's first three games of the season, per NBA.com/Stats.

Westbrook is also just the third player in league history—and first since 1974-75—to record 115 points, 35 boards and 35 assists over any three-game stretch of a season, per Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN Stats & Info).

Pete Maravich accomplished the same feat during the 1974-75 campaign, and Oscar Robertson did it twice—first in 1960-61 and then again the next season.

Westbrook will take his spectacular act to the Staples Center on Wednesday, facing the Los Angeles Clippers in a battle of 3-0 teams.
