Knile Davis Released by Jets After New York Signs C.J. Spiller
After a brief stint with the Green Bay Packers, running back Knile Davis found a temporary home with the New York Jets.
But before Davis could get too comfortable in the Big Apple, the Jets released him to make room for C.J. Spiller, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
It was a swift turnaround after New York claimed the 25-year-old player on waivers Tuesday, according to his agent, Ian Greengross. The team later announced the move as well, noting that running back Troymaine Pope was released to make room for Davis.

According to Rapoport, Spiller was always the preferred option:

Davis was traded from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Packers before Week 7 but has only totaled three rushing yards on six carries between the two locations. Green Bay waived him on Monday after two weeks with the team, per Marc Sessler of NFL.com.
The running back had spent three seasons with the Chiefs prior to being traded, appearing in 50 games while totaling 775 yards and 11 touchdowns. His best year came in 2014 when he totaled 463 yards on the ground, but he has still only managed an average of 3.3 yards per carry in his career.
Davis has made a bigger impact on special teams, returning two kickoffs for touchdowns in the regular season while adding a third in the playoffs.
Given his age, it's still a bit too early to assert Davis is out of chances to revive his NFL career. Still, his failure to stick with either the Packers or the Jets is concerning.
Green Bay is desperate for help in the backfield with Eddie Lacy on injured reserve, while New York opted for Spiller, who has 121 rushing yards the last two years, instead of keeping Davis.
Davis will return to the waiver wire Wednesday, but he may have to wait until the offseason before he's able to compete for an NFL roster spot again after shuffling through three teams already this year.
