Kings, Heat Reportedly in Trade Talks

Tuesday, Oct. 18

Per Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders, the Kings and Miami Heat have discussed a potential blockbuster deal involving Collison and Rudy Gay for Goran Dragic.

Scotto added the Kings and Heat are "kicking the tires" on a potential deal, noting both teams would benefit from it.

The Kings have been in search of help at point guard with Rajon Rondo leaving the team as a free agent over the summer.

Dragic has had to dial back comments he made to David Aldridge of NBA.com in which he said "you're right" when Aldridge said that re-signing with a Heat team that no longer has Dwyane Wade and doesn't plan on bringing back Chris Bosh wasn't what he planned last year.

Dragic later told Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel he was happy to be in Miami.

Collison has been a good player for the Kings over the previous two seasons. He's averaged 14.8 points and 4.8 assists in 119 games while shooting 48 percent overall, per Basketball-Reference.com

Collison does come with off-court baggage, being issued an eight-game suspension to start the season after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor domestic battery charge. He's only signed through the 2016-17 season for $5.2 million, per Spotrac.

If the Kings are serious about figuring out their point guard situation, moving Collison as part of a larger package makes the most sense. This could also be the team looking to make a fresh start under head coach Dave Joerger by making bold moves to improve in the future.
