Draymond Green Says He Has No Interest in Going After Regular-Season Wins Record

Kyle NewportSep 26, 2016

After starting the 2015-16 season 24-0, the Golden State Warriors made it their mission to eclipse the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls' NBA-record mark of 72 wins.

It may have taken the Dubs all 82 games to get to 73 wins, but they did ultimately set the record. Unfortunately for them, they were unable to match the Bulls in capping off the historic season with a championship, even after jumping out to a 3-1 lead in the 2016 NBA Finals.

Golden State responded to a heartbreaking Finals loss by going out and signing 2013-14 NBA MVP Kevin Durant this offseason. Yet this Warriors squad isn't going to go all out for 74 wins.

Offseason Moves Sure To Backfire 💥

At media day Monday, Golden State star Draymond Green made it clear, per Sam Amick of USA Today, that chasing the single-season wins record last season took a toll on him:

Records are nice and all, but at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is a championship. The 2015-16 Warriors got the former but not the latter. As a result, their Finals failure will overshadow their incredible season.

Adding Durant cost Golden State a few role players, but there is so much talent on the team that the Warriors still could make a run at the record once again (especially because some chemistry was made when Durant, Green and Klay Thompson played together at the 2016 Rio Olympics). It just won't be a goal this time around. If they are in position to do so, they might go for it. But they will make sure they are fresh for the postseason.
