Drew Singleton to Michigan: Wolverines Land 4-Star LB Prospect

Alec NathanDec 23, 2016

Drew Singleton has been regarded as one of the top high school linebackers in the nation for some time, and the 4-star standout decided Friday he will continue his career with the Michigan Wolverines.

ESPN.com's Tom VanHaaren first reported Singleton committed to play his college ball at the Big House.

Singleton made the announcement official with a video for Scout:

A Paramus Catholic product, Singleton is the top-ranked outside linebacker in the state of New Jersey and the fourth-ranked outside linebacker in the country among all 2017 recruits, per Scout. The 6'2", 214-pound force is also the 72nd-ranked player overall among his 2017 peers.

Based on his lofty standing, it should come as no surprise that Singleton chose Michigan because of the career advancement opportunities it offered.

"I want to go to a place that will prepare me the most for the NFL and the next level," Singleton said in July, per The Record's Darren Cooper. "That's the same reason why I came to PC, because I knew they would prepare me for college, so that's the same way I'll choose a college; somewhere I can play early and play for the best."

Now a member of the Wolverines, Singleton will bring his physical, attacking style to the next level as he seeks to make a leap and hone his NFL-caliber talent.

A side-to-side defender who can attack ball-carriers in short areas or use his burst to make plays sideline to sideline in the flat, Singleton has plenty to offer at the second level of the defense.

And even though Singleton's coverage skills against tight ends up the seam and running backs on flare routes could use some work in the months and years ahead, there's no denying he has the foundational capabilities necessary to blossom into a superstar.
