Draymond Green Comments on Arrest, Alleged Assault
Golden State Warriors All-Star Draymond Green spoke Tuesday about his arrest for allegedly assaulting a man during an altercation at a restaurant in East Lansing, Michigan, this past Sunday.
"I think when things happen, I think you meet them head-on," Green said, per the San Jose Mercury News' Jimmy Durkin. "My legal team is handling it. It will be resolved really quickly. As a public figure, I just can't put myself in certain situations. It's something that I'll learn from and just move on."
Green appeared at Fortune's Brainstorm Tech conference in Aspen, Colorado, when making his remarks, per Durkin. James Heos, Green's lawyer, told the Mercury News on Monday that his client is "completely innocent."
TMZ Sports released video that allegedly shows Green being taken away by police:
Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson spoke to Green in private and said Green was remorseful for his actions:
The 26-year-old was an integral part of the Warriors' 73-win season, averaging 14.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.4 blocks per game.
Green's volatile temperament boiled over in the postseason, though, causing him to be suspended for Game 5 of the NBA Finals. That contest wound up being the first of three straight wins for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who rallied from 3-1 down to stun the defending champions.
Green is slated to appear for Team USA at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He's an emotional leader for Golden State and will likely be tasked with a similar role on the American squad.
Although he could win over fans by representing the U.S. in a year when many marquee stars have opted out of the Olympics, Green's temperamental reputation may suffer in light of his recent legal run-in.
Considering no injuries were reported in the alleged assault and Green was released on $200 bond, per Durkin, the incident seems to be minor in the grand scheme of things.
