Dwyane Wade to Bulls: Twitter Reacts to Star's Decision to Join Chicago

Matt FitzgeraldJul 6, 2016

Dwyane Wade made his NBA home with the Miami Heat over the course of 13 seasons, but he'll be having a literal homecoming in the twilight of his career.

Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reported Wednesday that Wade told the Chicago Bulls, his hometown team, that he will sign with them. Wade confirmed the move in a letter to Miami given to the Associated Press.

Given Wade's epic legacy in Miami, which featured three championships, the Twitterverse had plenty to say regarding his landmark decision in free agency.

ESPN Stats & Info did well to accentuate how much Wade meant to the Heat:

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald noted that Wade's departure would send ripples through the major pro sports landscape in Miami:

Yahoo Sports' Dan Wetzel resorted to pop culture to articulate the rather shocking separation between Wade and the only pro team he'd played for to date:

Jim Rome of CBS Sports Radio felt the Bulls' open-market strategy was too geared toward players past their peaks:

Bleacher Report's Sean Highkin had an interesting conspiracy theory that had to do with how Chicago cleared cap space:

Here are the best of the rest:

Wade joins a fascinating perimeter trio in point guard Rajon Rondo—who agreed to a two-year deal with Chicago, per The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears—and Jimmy Butler, who'll have to shuffle over to the 3 for Wade to fit into the starting five at the 2.

Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg runs an uptempo system that could stand to add some additional three-point shooters considering neither Rondo nor Wade is known for lighting it up from beyond the arc.

While Wade's Windy City arrival is a great potential last chapter to his career, the fit personnel-wise is questionable.

For Hoiberg's offense to click, first-round draft pick Denzel Valentine has to play well along with Doug McDermott and stretch 4 Nikola Mirotic, who are relatively unproven commodities. Having a mentor like Wade should be invaluable to the younger players on the roster.

With Rondo, Wade, Butler and Valentine all capable of being lead playmaking guards, Chicago will have one of the NBA's most compelling chemistry puzzles to fit together in 2016-17.
