Butler May Consider Reunion with Heat

Monday, July 4

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, sources suggest that Butler could make a return to the Miami Heat.

The Heat chose Butler with the 10th overall pick in the 2002 draft, and he played two seasons with the team before stints with the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons and Kings.

The 36-year-old averaged just 3.7 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 10.4 minutes per game over 17 appearances for the Kings in the 2015-16 season.

Nonetheless, the Heat need bodies, as Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald noted:

The Heat lost Luol Deng to the Lakers in free agency and are still negotiating with Dwyane Wade, per Michael Wallace of ESPN.com, though Hassan Whiteside will be returning.

Butler will likely attract interest outside of Miami, however. Jessica Camerato of CSN Philly thinks he could make sense for teams built around inexperienced players:

Regardless, Butler will likely attract some attention on the market. While his role in the league going forward will be playing limited minutes off the bench, his experience should be enough for a team to bring him aboard for the 2016-17 campaign.
