Nets Looking to Move Jack by Thursday

Tuesday, June 28

According to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Nets would like to deal Jack in order to clear his salary off the books. However, Wojnarowski added that if Brooklyn can't find a trade partner, it will waive Jack instead.

The 32-year-old is owed $6.3 million in the final year of his contract, but the Nets (or whichever team trades for him) will only be responsible for $500,000 of that commitment if Brooklyn waives him by the buyout deadline on Thursday.

And as Basketball Insiders' Eric Pincus noted, an interested club could take on the $500,000 buyout and waive him via the stretch provision, but it would have to give the Nets "something they value."

Jack is coming off a torn ACL and a small meniscus tear in his right knee in January, but Wojnarowski cited league sources who said Jack's "rehab has been on [a] strong pace and he's expected to be ready for training camp in [the] fall."

If Jack is in fact able to prove he's healthy, he would be a worthwhile look for teams in need of depth at point guard—especially via waivers.

The $6.3 million one-year pact is hardly a tough pill to swallow with the salary cap set to rise, but if a team can ink Jack on its own terms should the Nets come up empty in their pursuit of a trade, he could wind up being a smart under-the-radar gamble.
