Nick Young, Iggy Azalea Announce Breakup on Social Media
Los Angeles Lakers forward Nick Young and rap star Iggy Azalea separately announced their breakup on Sunday.
Young simply tweeted, "Single," while Azalea had a more detailed post on Instagram:
The couple got engaged in June 2015, but a video filmed by Young's teammate, D'Angelo Russell, leaked in March and appeared to implicate he cheated on his fiancee. Azalea said at the time, per The Bert Show (via Entertainment Tonight's Jackie Willis), "I'm still figuring it all out. It's still fresh."
According to ESPN's Chad Ford (via CBSSports.com's James Herbert), speculation has swirled that L.A. could trade Russell ahead of the 2016 NBA draft on Thursday. Ford indicated Russell had "burned some bridges in the locker room."
The burned bridges are undoubtedly a hint at the controversy involving Young, which was just one unfortunate element to the Lakers' franchise-worst 17-65 season.
Young has two years remaining on a four-year contract worth over $21 million but does have a player option after this coming season, per Spotrac. The 31-year-old struggled to live up to that price tag in 2015-16, though, averaging 7.3 points on only 33.9 percent shooting.
Azalea's second studio album, Digital Distortion, is due for release Friday.
