'Purple Shirt Guy' from Miami-Charlotte Series Told Dwyane Wade He Should Retire
The star of Game 6 of the Miami Heat and Charlotte Hornets' first-round playoff series was obviously Dwyane Wade, who notched eight points in the final three minutes and six seconds of Miami's 97-90 win.
Purple Shirt Guy was a close second, though.
The Hornets superfan and his colorful attire became an Internet sensation after footage of him heckling Wade went viral.
And now, thanks to Theoden Janes of the Charlotte Observer, the world knows just what he said...sort of. According to Janes, the fan told Wade he needed to retire.
As it turns out, Purple Shirt Guy's real name is Michael Deason. He's 43 years old and owns the courtside seat he stood up from to confront Wade.
Deason also told Janes, "No, I didn't lose the game for them last night. Hell, did I win the game for them in Game 3 and 4? Because I was cheering a hell of a lot louder in Game 3 and 4."
Apparently, cheering loudly is a regular thing for Deason, who once received a formal warning from the NBA regarding its Fan Code of Conduct, according to Janes.
But Wade won the round, and as Heat guard Josh Richardson told the Miami Herald after the game, per Janes, "Sometimes, it's better not to wake up a sleeping giant."
Game 7 will go down in Miami on Sunday, presumably Purple Shirt Guy-free.
