Auriemma boarded the plane the morning of April 16 but soon exited the aircraft after feeling ill. He was hospitalized thereafter. He led UConn to its 11th national title on April 5 and saw three of his playersโ€”Breanna Stewart, Moriah Jefferson and Morgan Tuckโ€”go first, second and third, respectively, in Thursday's WNBA draft.

UConn released a statement saying he "had been ill for the last several days and was brought to the hospital for observation," per Dan Madigan of theย Daily Campus:

The Associated Press also noted that Auriemmaย missed UConn's national championship parade and did not join the Huskies when officialsย honored them at the state capitol, though heย was on hand at the WNBA draft to support his UConn trio, perย Dom Amoreย of theย Hartford Courant.

The Huskies secured their fourth straight national championship with an 82-51 win over the Syracuse Orange. Auriemma has won 955 games in 31 years at UConn.
