Rockets Fans Have Very Little Faith Their Team Will Upset Warriors in 1st Round
The first-round matchup between the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets is such a huge mismatch on paper that not even Houston fans have any expectations their team can win the series.
Not even the diehards.
How big of a mismatch is it? The Warriors set the single-season wins record with 73, while the Rockets finished the regular season with a .500 record at 41-41. That's the type of matchup that could result in a quick sweep and some rest for the defending champs.
As the KPRC 2 Houston poll above shows, Rockets fans expect the team to be one-and-done in the playoffs. The results are so lopsided that it doesn't appear there is any sight of Lloyd Christmas in Houston.
It's not clear how many votes were represented in the shot above, so it could be one, or it could be a couple thousand. All we do know is that by the time the poll closed, the Rockets had gained some support:
Obviously, Golden State is the overwhelming favorite after a record-setting regular season. However, nobody knows better than the Warriors that eighth seeds can win from time to time in the playoffs. Back in 2007, the 42-win Warriors upset the 67-win Dallas Mavericks in six games.
It wouldn't be surprising if Golden State celebrated a second consecutive title this summer. However, the games are played on the court, not on paper. Anything can happen—Houston fans just aren't getting their hopes up.
