Masters TV Schedule 2016: Definitive Coverage and Live Stream Guide for Saturday

Steve SilvermanApr 9, 2016

There are three dominant players in golf today.

Two of them will be squaring off when the third round of the Masters gets underway Saturday. Jordan Spieth is the course leader at four-under par, and he is also the defending champion at the famed Augusta, Georgia, course.

When he tees off tomorrow at 2:50 p.m. ET, his playing partner will be Rory McIlroy. The Northern Irishman fired a 71 in Friday's second round, and he is just one stroke behind the 22-year-old at three-under par.

While much will be determined in Saturday's Moving Day round, there is a chance Spieth and McIlroy will also be paired for Sunday's closing round as well. All they have to do is remain at the top of the leaderboard.

Spieth is ranked second in the World Golf Rankings, while McIlroy is third. Jason Day, the top-ranked player in those rankings, is five strokes behind at one over par. While that's not an ideal situation, there's no reason the Australian couldn't string two superior rounds together and join the competition for the title.

The presence of Spieth and McIlroy at the top of the scoreboard is exciting for golf fans on the grounds of Augusta National and also for those watching on television or streaming the broadcast.

In addition to those two superstars, Danny Lee and Scott Piercy are also chasing the Masters title. Both men are tied for third place at two-under par. Lee fired a 68 in the opening round but he had a difficult time in the second round with a two-over 74.

Hideki Matsuyama is just three strokes behind leader Jordan Spieth.

Piercy has been a bit more consistent as he fired 70-72 in the first two rounds. Hideki Matsuyama, Brandt Snedeker and Soren Kjeldsen are all tied at one under par, and no other players are under par through the halfway point of the tournament.

McIlroy may be in the best position to win the tournament. He played a sharp opening round and made several key putts during the second, even though scoring conditions were poor because of the gusting wind.

The 26-year-old spoke with confidence after his round, per Kyle Porter of CBS Sports:

"

I think the most comfortable thing for me on this golf course is knowing that even if you are five or six shots back, things can change quite quickly. I've been on the opposite end of that where things can start to get away from you. That gives me confidence knowing that if you are a little bit behind, you can definitely make a comeback.

"

Spieth had built a sizable lead while getting his score to eight-under through the fourth hole on Friday, but an uncharacteristic double-bogey on the fifth hole helped bring him back to the pack.

The reigning Masters champion made a couple of excellent putts the rest of the round, his game lacked the precision he had exhibited earlier.

Nevertheless, he has the lead through the first two rounds, and Justin Ray of the Golf Channel pointed out he is in a rare position.

Look for Spieth to recover from his second-round struggles and engage McIlroy in a memorable Moving Day Duel.
