Police Report Multiple Arrests, Injuries After Villanova's Win vs. UNC
Villanova's first national championship in three decades led to multiple arrests, hospitalizations and a horse assault as celebrations spilled out into the streets late Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
Rob Tornoe, Justine McDaniel and Laura McCrystal of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported there were "six to eight" arrests and 30 people injured during postgame riots. Five people were hospitalized with injuries.
Radnor police Lt. Chris Flanagan told A.J. Perez of USA Today one man was arrested after striking a police horse. He was arrested on felony charges.

"There were no injuries to the equine," Flanagan said.
Fans took to the streets immediately after Kris Jenkins' three-pointer gave the Wildcats a 77-74 victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels at the buzzer in Houston. It's the second national title in Villanova history, as this one joins the school's unlikely jaunt to a championship as a No. 8 seed in 1985.
Flanagan said the "vast majority" of fans were well-behaved, but there were multiple fires on and near campus. Crowding also forced police to shut down roads, and there was damage to items ranging from trees to street signs.
All in all, postgame celebrations of this sort have become more frequent—even if they're not safe or in many cases legal.
By comparison: There were 31 people arrested last year after Kentucky lost to Wisconsin in the Final Four. However, there were no known arrests on Duke's campus following its 2015 national championship bid.
