Delvon Dowling Arrested in Connection with Shooting of Cleanthony Early
Delvon Dowling was arrested Friday and arraigned in federal court Saturday in connection with the December 30 shooting of New York Knicks player Cleanthony Early outside of CityScapes Gentleman's Club in Queens, New York.
The New York Daily News' John Marzulli reported the news, citing a complaint that was unsealed Monday.
"It could of been way worse and I'm thankful and grateful it wasn't, but I know I'll be back better and smarter then ever, it's what I do," wrote Early as part of a previous Instagram post about the shooting.
As Marzulli outlined in his report, the complaint indicates Dowling and multiple other assailants in three cars surrounded Early, his girlfriend and the Uber driver, whose car they were in. Dowling and the assailants were carrying firearms as they approached.
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives representative William Puskas stated one of the assailants shot Early in the leg, per Marzulli.
Dowling, who works in a liquor warehouse in Queens, according to Marzulli, admitted to his involvement when he was arrested Friday, but he specified he was driving a getaway car and didn't shoot Early. Per the complaint, he sold the two cell phones he stole from Early for $40.
Early was a second-round pick (No. 34 overall) in the 2014 NBA draft after starring at Wichita State. The 24-year-old logged a season-high 23 minutes in Friday's 105-91 victory over the Brooklyn Nets, posting seven points, six rebounds and three assists.
