Buddy Hield Named Oscar Robertson Player of the Year: Latest Comments, Reaction
Oklahoma Sooners superstar Buddy Hield is bringing home some hardware before Saturday's Final Four, as the senior star was named the Oscar Robertson Player of the Year on Friday.
Per Andrew Carter of Fox 23 in Tulsa, Hield received 144 votes compared to 108 for Michigan State star Denzel Valentine.
Hield and Valentine are doing battle for all of this season's national player of the year honors. Valentine struck the first blow Thursday, narrowly winning the Associated Press' honor by a voting margin of 34 to 31, per Jim O'Connell of the AP.

Hield has every reason to feel ecstatic about winning an award named after a Hall of Famer, but he seems more focused on Saturday's showdown against Villanova, per Carter:
Since Hield didn't want to talk about himself, Robertson decided he would be the one to heap praise on the Oklahoma superstar, per Carter:
Hield won the award for his performance in the regular season, which was magnificent. He set career highs in scoring (25.4 points per game), shooting percentage (50.4), three-point percentage (46.5), rebounding (5.7) and assists (2.0) in helping Oklahoma reach No. 1 in the AP Top 25 for three weeks in January and February.
The NCAA tournament, though, has seen Hield take his game to another level. He's averaging 29.3 points and 6.5 rebounds, leading the Sooners to their first Final Four appearance since 2002.
Even though these awards recognize what happens in the regular season, Hield has become the star of this year's tournament. He deserves all of the accolades that will come his way, yet the ultimate goal of a title remains his top priority.
