Jason Terry Rumors: Latest News and Speculation on Rockets Guard's Future
Houston Rockets guard Jason Terry interviewed for his next potential job on March 31, although it wasn't with another NBA team. On the same day his club lost to the Chicago Bulls, 103-100, the 38-year-old interviewed for the Alabama-Birmingham Blazers' vacant head coaching position. However, the guard will not be making the move to the coaching ranks.

Terry Confirms Exit from UAB Search
Sunday, April 3
Mark Berman of Fox 26 passed along comments from Terry after learning the school will go with a different candidate:
On Friday, Terry spoke about his interview to ESPN.com's Calvin Watkins:
"It went well. UAB is in an interesting situation, the success they had, but [former coach Jerod] Haase's immediate departure left that job open. I have deep roots in the Birmingham community -- uncles, cousins, aunts -- and so I'm very familiar with the area. So we'll see what happens. It was a good meeting that I had.
"
Terry also spoke about his future in the NBA and discussed planning for after his career, per Watkins:
"In this business, you have to plan for your post-career. This is no different, being prepared. You always have to be prepared. Would I like to play a couple more years? Yes. But I have to leave my options open. And if this offer is better than what I have on the horizon, then I'm going to have to jump head-first in it. There is some longevity in it, and it is my passion.

Cuban Comments on Terry as Potential Coach
Friday, April 1
"I can see Jet being a coach," Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said, per Tim MacMahon of ESPN. "He knows the game. He's intense. He communicates well. Guys can relate to him. Yeah, I can definitely see it."
Terry an Unknown as Potential Coaching Candidate
It might seem odd for any team to be looking at someone who has never coached, but the trend of hiring players fresh off their playing days is alive and well. The Brooklyn Nets hired former point guard Jason Kidd following his final season in the NBA, while the New York Knicks made Derek Fisher their head coach last season immediately following his retirement.
Neither worked out, as the Nets traded Kidd to the Milwaukee Bucks after one season, and the Knicks fired Fisher in February.
Joseph Goodman of AL.com couldn't seem to process Terry being linked to a head-coaching gig:
It's nearly impossible to say whether Terry would succeed as the head man, but he has been around the game for a while, as this is his 17th season as an NBA player.
One thing is certain: Many teams, both college and pro, don't feel as though they need to hire someone with a long history of coaching. Whether that is a good philosophy remains to be seen.
