Ray-Ray Armstrong, 49ers Agree to New Contract: Details, Reaction
The San Francisco 49ers and outside linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong reached an agreement Tuesday on a one-year contract extension.
The 49ers confirmed the new deal, which covers the 2016 season, on their official site. Financial details of the re-signing were not immediately released.
San Francisco claimed Armstrong off waivers from the Oakland Raiders in November. He appeared in five games, mostly on special teams, and recorded three combined tackles.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The 25-year-old Miami product previously spent time with the St. Louis Rams to go along with his time on the Raiders roster. He's never been a high-impact player during any of his stops, registering just 57 combined tackles in 46 career games across three seasons.
Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reported the 49ers are likely going to shift Armstrong inside to become part of a competition to win a starting spot alongside NaVorro Bowman. He'll be one of at least five players battling for that opportunity.
He'll enter the competition as a long shot to win the job. That said, San Francisco doesn't have many other intriguing options to fill the void. Michael Wilhoite and Gerald Hodges are among the other contenders ahead of free agency and the draft. The group will become even more crowded after that.
More likely, Armstong will settle back in as a defensive reserve capable of playing anywhere along the linebacker level. He'll also contribute on special teams.
While it's a re-signing that's likely to get lost in the chaos over the next couple of days, it's a solid depth move that gives the front office one fewer spot to fill heading into next season.
