The Butler Bulldogs gave it a good effort but ultimately proved to be no match for the Villanova Wildcats at the Pavilion on Saturday.

No. 1 Villanova beat Butler 77-67, powered by 22 points and 12 rebounds from Josh Hart and a 20-point performance by Kris Jenkins.

Often a game of runs, Butler held the lead for brief stretches in each half. But when pressed, the Wildcats responded with the calm confidence befitting a top-ranked team.

The Bulldogs got double-digit performances from Kelan Martin (19 pts), Roosevelt Jones (16 pts) and Kellen Dunham (13 pts), but were hurt by 38 percent field-goal shooting and a chilly 13-for-22 performance from the foul line.

The win will keep the Wildcats at No. 1 for another week and improves their record to 13-1 in the Big East, while Butler drops to 7-8 in conference play.
