The No. 6 Kansas Jayhawks (20-4, 8-3 Big 12) forced a three-way tie atop the Big 12 standings with a 10-point win over the No. 10 West Virginia Mountaineers (19-5, 8-3) at Allen Fieldhouse on Tuesday.
The Jayhawks, Mountaineers and Oklahoma Sooners all have 8-3 records in conference play. Kansas visits Oklahoma on Saturday in the next heavyweight bout in the Big 12 regular-season title race.
Kansas went into the locker room with a seven-point advantage, but the host Jayhawks didn't pull away from West Virginia until the middle of the second half.
With Devin Williams on the bench in foul trouble, Kansas extended its lead to 13 through a pair of clutch shots from beyond the arc by Brannen Greene and Devonte' Graham.
West Virginia got within four of the Jayhawks at the under-eight, but its comeback attempt was thwarted when Tarik Phillip picked up a technical foul for an elbow to the head of Frank Mason.
After that point in the game, Kansas used free-throw shooting and strong rebounding to secure its eighth conference win of the season.
Landen Lucas, who averages 4.3 points per game, produced nine points and 16 rebounds for the Jayhawks. Perry Ellis led Kansas in scoring with 21 points.
Williams and Jaysean Paige both scored 14 points for West Virginia in the defeat.
