The San Antonio Spurs came into Thursday's potential NBA Finals preview against the Cleveland Cavaliers as the league's hottest team.

San Antonio won nine in a row and 16 of its last 17 before Thursday's game but had to match wits with a Cavaliers squad that won eight in a row.

Thursday's game was the first of two January contests between the powerhouses, and San Antonio earned the 99-95 victory behind 24 points from Tony Parker and 20 points from Kawhi Leonard.
