Injury Update

2 of 8

Probables

Quarterbacks

  • Matt Schaub, Baltimore Ravens (chest): You know what this means—the Schaub-ception is in play for the Chiefs defense.

Running Backs

  • Lamar Miller, Miami Dolphins (ankle): Will the Dolphins finally do the right thing and run the offense through Lamar Miller? Probably not. But it's a great matchup nonetheless, and Miller has proven he can put up big numbers on limited carries.
  • DeAngelo Williams, Pittsburgh Steelers (illness): This doesn't seem like a particularly good matchup for DeAngelo Williams, but the Broncos aren't nearly as good against the run as they are against the pass.

Wide Receivers

  • Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals (ankle): A scoring drought has brought Fitzgerald's fantasy owners to their knees, begging for a touchdown. He should have ample opportunity against that bad Eagles defense this week.
  • Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos (rest): Seriously? Why even put a player on the injury list when he was simply resting
  • Jarvis Landry, Miami Dolphins (knee): Landry has spent some time dealing with a balky knee lately, though it hasn't stopped him from commanding double-digit targets every week.
  • Danny Amendola, New England Patriots (knee): Amendola has just about one more week of heavy usage before Julian Edelman steals his fantasy relevance away.
  • Dontrelle Inman, San Diego Chargers (neck): Normally there wouldn't be much occasion to mention Dontrelle Inman here, but he should be starting against an increasingly bad Dolphins defense this week.

Tight Ends

  • Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers (knee): This comes as a huge relief to Olsen's fantasy owners as the semifinals approach. For a little while there it looked like he could miss this week's fantastic matchup against the Giants.
  • Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots (noninjury): Our thoughts are with Rob Gronkowski, who lost a close friend this week.
  • Heath Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers (ribs): It looks like Miller will be good to go this Sunday. Unfortunately that Denver defense is going to make life difficult for him and his teammates.

Risks

Andre Ellington, RB, Arizona Cardinals (toe)

Getting Andre Ellington back would be a boon for the Arizona Cardinals and a bane for David Johnson's fantasy owners. There is little reason to utilize Ellington in the fantasy realm, but he could steal away some touches if he winds up playing.

The second-year back will be a game-time decision. This shouldn't affect your decision to start Johnson, though—he belongs in your lineup unless you are stacked at running back.

Zach Miller, TE, Chicago Bears (illness)

Alshon Jeffery, WR, Chicago Bears (calf/illness)

Flu season is nigh in Chicago.

Both Alshon Jeffery and Zach Miller missed practice toward the end of the week with an illness, prompting the Bears to list them both as questionable. It doesn't seem likely that either will actually miss the game this week against that soft Vikings defense, though.

C.J. Anderson, RB, Denver Broncos (ankle)

He may be listed as questionable, but C.J. Anderson is expected to play this week against the Steelers. The question is whether you want to risk him in your lineup.

Perhaps your fantasy squad has been ravaged by injuries at the running back position, and everyone else scooped you for quality waiver-wire pickups. In that case, Anderson seems like a decent option.

Calvin Johnson, WR, Detroit Lions (ankle)

We have seen this movie before.

Calvin Johnson didn't practice most of the week, but he did get on the field on Friday. That means he will probably be good to go on Sunday, and he should bounce back with a huge game against that buttery-soft New Orleans secondary.

Donte Moncrief, WR, Indianapolis Colts (toe)

If Donte Moncrief isn't able to play this week, Phillip Dorsett suddenly becomes an interesting option. That is especially true in daily fantasy leagues, where Dorsett should be priced rather nicely.

Spencer Ware, RB, Kansas City Chiefs (ribs)

This is another one of those situations in which fantasy owners hope a player just stays down for another week.

Spencer Ware could make it back onto the field this week, which would put a big damper on Charcandrick West's great matchup. The latter came off an injury of his own last week, and his output was affected by Ware's strong play.

Hopefully West will tote the ball plenty with or without Ware in the game, but the latter's absence would certainly be a boon to West's fantasy owners.

Doubtful or Out

Jonathan Stewart, RB, Carolina Panthers (foot)

After bucking his own injury reputation for much of the season, it looks like Jonathan Stewart will finally miss a game. It couldn't be happening at a worse time for his fantasy owners.

Stewart will give way to Fozzy Whittaker, Cameron Artis-Payne and Mike Tolbert, and fantasy owners can spin the roulette wheel to see which back will have a big game this week. Whittaker has the most upside, but that can easily be short-circuited in a three-way timeshare.

Tyler Eifert, TE, Cincinnati Bengals (concussion)

Losing Tyler Eifert at this critical juncture is a huge blow to his fantasy owners and the Bengals offense alike. Hopefully you were able to snag a solid replacement for him when he missed a game a couple of weeks ago.

Unfortunately, this is bad news for A.J. Green. With A.J. McCarron throwing him the ball and no major threats to occupy the defense's attention, Green could be in for a 2015 Dez Bryant Special this week.

Julian Edelman, WR, New England Patriots (foot)

In case you were just itching to get Julian Edelman into your lineup this week, it'll probably be another week before you can utilize him.

T.J. Yeldon, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars (knee)

A knee injury will likely keep T.J. Yeldon out this week, opening the door for Denard Robinson to have another big game against that soft Falcons defense.

Injury updates courtesy of Rotoworld unless otherwise noted.

Sleepers and Busts

3 of 8

Sleepers

Fozzy Whittaker, RB, Carolina Panthers

Jonathan Stewart is the latest running back to go down with injury—though hopefully for just one week—giving Fozzy Whittaker a chance to shine in that Carolina backfield.

With fantasy owners likely falling all over themselves to start Tim Hightower, Denard Robinson or Bryce Brown, Whittaker is flying under the radar. If you are like many other fantasy owners, you need someone to step in and score points at running back. Whittaker can be that man for you.

Brandon Bolden, RB, New England Patriots

Brandon Bolden is another running back who might be relatively unnoticed heading into Week 15.

LeGarrette Blount is out, and James White seems to be the man. But Bolden got his fair share of the workload last week, and the Patriots could be handing the ball off plenty in the second half if they get out to a big lead against the Titans.

Busts

Odell Beckham Jr., WR, New York Giants

Unless you are loaded at wide receiver, you can’t sit Odell Beckham Jr. The trouble is, Josh Norman is waiting for his next victim.

The Bates Motel has welcomed Julio Jones, Mike Evans, Allen Robinson and T.Y. Hilton thus far this season, and none of those guys checked out. Norman has simply been one of the best cornerbacks in the league.

Now, Beckham is supremely talented and capable of beating Norman, so there’s a chance he will get into the end zone and continue putting up big fantasy numbers. This will be a fun battle to watch, but it won’t likely end well for Beckham's fantasy owners.

Antonio Brown, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers

Much to the chagrin of fantasy owners, Antonio Brown is in a similar boat to Odell Beckham Jr.

Unlike the shark that will stalk Beckham, though, a school of piranha will fell Brown. Denver’s defense may have faltered against the Raiders last week, but it has still given up just two touchdowns to receivers this season—one each to Mike Wallace and Seth Roberts. Cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Chris Harris Jr. do a nice job against opposing wideouts, and the Broncos pass rush buoys the secondary all around.

Like with Beckham, benching Brown is not an option. But don't be surprised if his output is negatively impacted this week.

Jordan Reed, TE, Washington

The Buffalo Bills have done a pretty nice job defending tight ends this season, including temporarily transforming Rob Gronkowski into a mere mortal.

Start 'Em

4 of 8

Matthew Stafford, QB, Detroit Lions

Last week Matthew Stafford was in the “Sit ‘Em” section here, but he will be back with a vengeance in Week 15.

The Lions travel to New Orleans to take on the leaky Saints defense, a far cry from the stingy Rams pass defense.

Charcandrick West, RB, Kansas City Chiefs

It was a quiet return for Charcandrick West, who split time with Spencer Ware and couldn’t really get things going against the Chargers for the second time this season. Ware is hurting, though, meaning West could rack up touches this week.

Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Arizona Cardinals

A scoring drought no doubt has Larry Fitzgerald’s fantasy owners frustrated. Have no fear—the Eagles defense is here!

Philadelphia’s porous secondary has allowed the second-most fantasy PPG to opposing receivers this season. Now, those points could just as easily go to John Brown or Michael Floyd, but there should be plenty to go around this Sunday.

Zach Miller, TE, Chicago Bears

Think last week was a fluke? Think again.

Zach Miller had a huge game, and it wasn’t his first of the season. With Martellus Bennett out for the year, Miller becomes a top-12 option going forward, barring an awful matchup. This week does not qualify as such, so you should feel confident in starting him if you don’t have a reliable alternative.

Indianapolis D/ST

The Texans have not fared well against Indianapolis since ever, and they have a hurting quarterback with no running game of which to speak. The Colts may not be a sexy option, but they should provide a good floor for fantasy scoring this week.

Sit 'Em

5 of 8

A.J. McCarron, QB, Cincinnati Bengals

The fantasy realm is littered with the remains of squads whose owners got too cute. Starting A.J. McCarron is one such move.

Barring injuries on your fantasy team, there is no reason to start McCarron.

Isaiah Crowell, RB, Cleveland Browns

Don’t let recency bias cloud your judgment—Isaiah Crowell’s huge output last week is not indicative of future success.

Not, at least, when facing the surging Seattle Seahawks on the road.

Dez Bryant, WR, Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys spin a tale of woe this season, both in real life and the fantasy realm. Dez Bryant plays a leading role in that story.

With his starting quarterback gone and, perhaps, lingering effects from a broken foot earlier this season, Bryant has been unable to put up any kind of production. This week he squares off against Darrelle Revis—albeit the latter seems to have exited his prime—and there is little hope he will put up a big game with Matt Cassel at the helm of the offense.

If you haven’t already, it’s time to bench Bryant.

Vernon Davis, TE, Denver Broncos

You are going to be tempted to stick Vernon Davis into your lineups after his seven-catch, 71-yard performance last week. Are you really willing to risk Davis putting up a goose egg, as he is wont to do?

Denver Broncos D/ST

Admittedly, this is probably a bad idea without a decent alternative. But do you really want to risk starting the Broncos defense on the road against a Steelers offense that is on fire?

Denver boasts one of the best defenses in the league, so the matchup may not matter. But Pittsburgh did annihilate the Seahawks defense in Seattle not too long ago thanks to one of the best passing attacks in the league.

The DraftKings Scoop

6 of 8

Here is the Week 15 rundown for DraftKings, if you are of that persuasion.

The Chalk

chalk (n.)—a player considered to be a consensus pick or a “must-start” option for a given DFS contest, especially in cash games.

David Johnson, RB, Arizona Cardinals ($5,700)

Whether Andre Ellington returns or not, David Johnson is in for a huge week against the Philadelphia Eagles. Granted, the passing game probably looks more enticing, but Johnson is in for a big second-half workload if the Cardinals get out to a big lead.

Whatever the case, he figures to have one of the highest ownership percentages of the week at $5,700 with that matchup. That makes him the chalk play of the week.

Denard Robinson, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars ($4,600)

With T.J. Yeldon nursing a knee injury, Denard Robinson will have a chance to shine. He already showed out last week in relief of Yeldon, and he gets an even better matchup against the Falcons.

Plenty of fantasy owners will be on Robinson this week, and he is probably going to meet value with ease. He has pass-catching ability that is particularly helpful in PPR formats to boot.

Tim Hightower, RB, New Orleans Saints ($3,900)

Whodathunk Tim Hightower still had it in him?

After nearly four lost years, the veteran running back took over for injured Mark Ingram and carried the load with gusto for the Saints. He also scored a tidy sum of fantasy points for anyone who invested in him last week.

His price was barely affected, though, making him one of the best values of the week at $3,900. That alone will draw plenty of investors for Week 15.

The Cash Plays

cash game (n.)—a contest in which at least 40 percent of the entrants earn a prize. High-floor players are desirable in cash games.

Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings ($7,100)

Adrian Peterson is the MVP candidate nobody is talking about, carrying his offense yet again as the Vikings fight for their playoff lives.

This week, Peterson goes up against a Bears defense that has had fits defending Peterson throughout his career.

Danny Amendola, WR, New England Patriots ($5,700)

Julian Edelman isn't quite back from his foot injury, and the defense is optional for the Titans. That means a ton of quality targets for Amendola, who should have a big week in PPR formats.

Charcandrick West, RB, Kansas City Chiefs ($4,800)

Pass-catching ability? Check. A starter's workload? Probably. Great matchup? Absolutely.

Charcandrick West should find himself in the top 12 in fantasy scoring this week, perhaps higher in PPR formats. That makes him a valuable option at DraftKings.

The Stacks

stack (v.)—rostering two to three players from the same NFL team with the hope that if one player performs extremely well, then the other one to two players will also benefit.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB ($5,400) and Brandon Marshall, WR ($7,600)

Brandon Marshall could score a touchdown in his seventh consecutive game this week, joining elite company in the process. On the one hand that makes him a bit touchdown-dependent for fantasy scoring, and he is “due” to be shut out of the end zone. On the other hand, Marshall has been near-unstoppable this season.

Matthew Stafford, QB ($6,100) and Eric Ebron, TE ($3,000) or Calvin Johnson, WR, Detroit Lions ($6,900)

Last week was not a good time to start this couple—the St. Louis Rams are simply not a good matchup for most passing games—but the opposite is true in Week 15.

The Saints boast arguably the worst defense in the league in spite of relative improvement under new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. Pairing Matthew Stafford with Calvin Johnson is less expensive than some other options, and it could prove to be the most profitable stack of the week.

Eric Ebron, meanwhile, is a rather inexpensive alternative at the tight end position with serious upside. The Saints have an equal-opportunity defensive unit when it comes to giving up fantasy points to opposing pass-catchers.

Russell Wilson, QB ($7,000) and Doug Baldwin, WR ($5,800 or Tyler Lockett, WR , Seattle Seahawks ($4,200)

The Seahawks offense is on fire, and Russell Wilson has provided the gas. He and Doug Baldwin have laid waste to opposing pass defenses for the past several weeks, and we could see more fireworks against the lowly Cleveland Browns in Week 15.

The duo will probably be highly owned this week, so they make for a good cash lineup pairing. If GPP is more your flavor, subbing boom-or-bust wideout Tyler Lockett in for Baldwin makes a ton of sense.

Carson Palmer, QB ($7,000) and Michael Floyd, WR ($4,400), John Brown, WR ($4,900) or Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Arizona Cardinals ($7,300)

The Cardinals have one of the best passing offenses in the league. The Eagles have one of the worst pass defenses in the league. Someone is going to be the odd man out, but it’s likely Carson Palmer hooks up with multiple receivers for touchdowns this week.

The GPP Plays

GPP (n.)—stands for “Guaranteed Prize Pool.” It is a type of tournament for which the daily fantasy sports site promises a specific prize pool amount to be divided among the winners regardless of entry count.

Philip Rivers, QB, San Diego Chargers ($5,500)

It has been a slog for Philip Rivers in recent weeks, which is why his price has plummeted to $5,500. Injuries have taken their toll on the Chargers offense, but that unit has been outright bad in the second half of the season.

Fortunately, the Dolphins defense is a great tonic.

That unit was just thrashed by Eli Manning and the New York Giants, losing the game and the season by way of immolation. Cornerback Brent Grimes looks like Father Time caught him, and offenses have been able to work around Miami’s two best defenders—defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and safety Reshad Jones.

J.J. Nelson, WR, Arizona Cardinals ($3,000)

The entire Arizona offense seems to be viable option this week, including one minimum-priced player who can score from anywhere on the field.

That would be J.J. Nelson, the speedy home run threat who came close to breaking one last week. Nelson isn’t on the field enough to warrant heavy attention, but he is absolutely a high-upside option in GPP contests.

Theo Riddick, RB, Detroit Lions ($4,000)

We have talked up Matthew Stafford and that Lions passing game quite a bit, but what about the running game?

Actually, Theo Riddick will probably be a big part of that passing attack, making him a rather intriguing target in PPR formats. Perhaps the Saints defense will sell out on stopping Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate, opening up the flat and the middle of the field for Riddick to wreak havoc.

Daily fantasy definitions courtesy of Cracking DraftKings over at FootballGuys.com.

Last-Minute Waiver-Wire Pickups

7 of 8

Brandon Bolden, RB, New England Patriots

It's possible that Brandon Bolden went unnoticed on the waiver wire this week with all the buzz surrounding Fozzy Whittaker and the Seattle backfield. It's also possible Bolden will outscore them all this week.

Jacksonville Jaguars D/ST

Pickings are slim for those fantasy owners who are streaming defenses this season. Jacksonville’s defense is such a unit that can be a difference-maker in Week 15, however.

The Jaguars aren’t particularly good, but that’s not the point—it’s the Falcons offense that is struggling. Quarterback Matt Ryan has simply been awful in the second half of the season, and he is a big reason why the Falcons have handed opposing defenses the second-most fantasy PPG over the past five weeks.

This is by no means a slam dunk, but the Jaguars are probably going to have a top-10 fantasy week on the defensive side of the ball, and they are probably available in your league.

Dontrelle Inman, WR, San Diego Chargers

If you want to take that flyer on Inman, he is probably available in your league. There’s still time to snag him.

What Other Experts Are Saying

8 of 8

Matthew Berry is on the same page about Matthew Stafford against the Saints this week in his Love/Hate column over at ESPN.com:

"

You know what Jim Bob Cooter likes? Raccoon hunting, old-school honky-tonk and, randomly, portobello mushrooms. Easy stereotypes due to his name aside, the one thing I know Jim Bob Cooter legitimately likes is facing a defense that has allowed the most 300-yard passers this season, the most touchdown passes and is tied for the second-fewest interceptions. Did the Saints play better last week? Yes. Dennis Allen is a good coach. But he's not a miracle worker, and in what might have been the best game of the season for the Saints' pass defense, they still allowed Jameis Winston to score 13 fantasy points. I'm expecting a shootout on Monday Night Football and Stafford, who is averaging 20 points per game since his bye, should be a part of it.

"

The Yahoo fantasy staff loves Denard Robinson this week with Yeldon out of the picture:

"

With T.J. Yeldon listed as doubtful (knee) this week, it's time for fantasy owners to "Lace 'em up," as the Jags will turn to "Shoelace" Robinson in the backfield against an Atlanta defense allowing the third-most fantasy PPG to the RB position - it has allowed a top 10 fantasy RB in each of its past four games. We saw Robinson carry top five fantasy RB value for a month after stepping in for RB Toby Gerhart around mid-season of last year. And he was good for 75 rushing yards and a TD in about 2.5 quarters last week after Yeldon went down. I see Robinson as a clear top 10 RB play this week.

"

Rotoworld’s Nick Mensio thinks Heath Miller will have a big week against the Broncos despite the seemingly bad matchup:

"

Miller returned from his one-week absence to catch all 10 of his targets for 66 yards against the Bengals last Sunday. He’s seen at least six targets in five-straight games, and that streak will very likely continue against Denver. Much like Jacksonville, the Broncos have been bleeding points to tight ends since Week 10. Over that span, the Broncos have allowed the second-most catches for the most yards and third-most fantasy points to tight ends. Denver’s cornerback trio is so strong that quarterbacks have been looking more for their tight end in the middle of the field as a means of moving the football downfield. This is a strong spot for Miller.
