AP College Basketball Poll 2015: Complete Week 5 Rankings Released
After sizable upheaval a week ago, the latest Associated Press basketball poll is largely defined by its stagnation.
Undefeated Michigan State remained the nation's top-ranked team with its 11-0 start, while second-ranked Kansas stuck around after a two-win week. Oklahoma moves up to No. 3 after a strong week, while No. 4 Kentucky and No. 5 Iowa State switched spots despite the Cyclones' staying undefeated.
Here is a look at how the Top 25 played out:

The most notable week-to-week change comes from North Carolina, which dropped from No. 3 to No. 11 after suffering an 84-82 upset loss to Texas. Longhorns guard Javan Felix knocked down a buzzer-beating jumper after pulling down an uncontested rebound following Isaiah Taylor's attempted game-winner. The win marked a major boost for first-year coach Shaka Smart and a disconcerting sign for the Tar Heels, who are 0-2 in road games this season.
"I think our team played pretty doggone well, but not enough to get over the hump," coach Roy Williams told reporters. "You've got to learn from these moments, and you've got to get some positive things out of them."
ESPN's Fran Fraschilla noted Williams' struggles against Texas:
Picked as a preseason national championship favorite, North Carolina has four nonconference games remaining to right the ship. Saturday's game against UCLA might be a strong barometer, especially after the Bruins scored upset wins over Kentucky and Gonzaga in consecutive weeks.
Outside of North Carolina, Oklahoma's dominance in a Top 10 clash with Villanova stole the week. The Sooners held Villanova to 31.7 percent shooting and got a 19-point, 10-assist, six-rebound effort from Isaiah Cousins on their way to a 78-55 win at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. They've been among the nation's least active teams with only seven wins so far, but no squad has come closer than 17 points since a season-opening scare against Memphis.
"That's what we do," guard Buddy Hield said, per the Associated Press (via ESPN.com). "Coach always preaches moving the basketball and we can't be selfish. That's how we make plays for each other and we've got to be an unselfish team and everybody is going to be able to get shots up."
Ken Pomeroy's Pythagorean rankings currently have Oklahoma second nationally behind only one-loss Virginia. Its third-ranked defense is only 0.2 points per 100 possessions off the pace of first-place Purdue.
The loss dropped Villanova from No. 9 to No. 12. Overall, though, there weren't all that many changes near the top of the rankings. Villanova and North Carolina were the only Top 10 teams to lose, while a majority of the other ranked teams continued to rack up wins over low-end competition.
West Virginia and Gonzaga helped comprise the four losers in the Top 20. The Mountaineers took an understandable 70-54 loss to Virginia in the Jimmy V Classic, and Gonzaga's disappointing start continued with a 71-66 home loss to UCLA. Viewed as a preseason Final Four contender, the Zags have already dropped three games and haven't gotten nearly enough production from players not named Kyle Wiltjer or Domantas Sabonis.
"We have to make plays at the end of these games," coach Mark Few said, per the Spokesman-Review. "We have to get stops and then we have to make plays. That's how you win. That's how all of our other teams have won. That's how anybody wins, especially close games."
The team is also dealing with a back injury to Przemek Karnowski, which reduces its massive size advantage. Losing to UCLA sent Gonzaga outside the Top 25, one of four teams sent packing.
No. 21 George Washington, No. 22 UCLA, No. 24 Texas A&M and No. 25 Connecticut moved into the rankings as replacements.
