Los Angeles Lakers vs. Philadelphia 76ers: Live Score, Highlights and Reaction
Robert Covington scored 23 points and the Philadelphia 76ers avoided the worst start in NBA history with a 103-91 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers at the Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday night.
The 76ers lost their first 18 games of the 2015-16 campaign and had lost 28 straight dating back to last season.
Things weren't easy this time, either.
Philadelphia had to climb out of a 14-point hole, as the Lakers built a double-digit lead in the second quarter. However, the Sixers closed out the first half well, trimming Los Angeles' advantage to eight by halftime.
Kobe Bryant dazzled in the first quarter during his final game in the City of Brotherly Love, making three of his first four three-pointers to bring the crowd to its feet.
Bryant played high-school basketball in Philadelphia and beat the 76ers in the 2001 NBA Finals.
Bryant's early success was short-lived, though. He finished just 7-of-26 from the floor and went a paltry 4-of-17 from three-point range. He scored 20 points.
Kobe's struggles after the first period played a major role in the Sixers' rally, as the Lakers were unable to find consistent scoring from anyone other than Jordan Clarkson, who tallied 19.
Soon enough, Los Angeles found itself down by 14 with seven minutes to play.
The 76ers ended up shooting 46.8 percent from the floor overall and shot 14-of-32 from long distance.
The Lakers made only 37.1 percent of their shots and hit on eight of their 34 three-point tries.
Los Angeles will travel to Washington to take on the Wizards on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia will head to the Big Apple to take on the New York Knicks, also on Wednesday.
