Jimmer Fredette to Westchester Knicks: Latest Contract Details and Reaction

Mike ChiariNov 28, 2015

Jimmer Fredette's roller-coaster season continued Saturday, as the NBA Development League's Westchester Knicks announced the signing of the former BYU superstar.

ESPN's Ian Begley was the first to report the news. Per Jarom Jordan of BYUtv, Fredette is expected to be available when Westchester plays the Grand Rapids Drive on Monday.

The San Antonio Spurs waived the 26-year-old guard just prior to the start of the regular season in October. He was subsequently selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA D-League draft by Westchester.

Fredette was signed by the New Orleans Pelicans shortly thereafter with a hardship exemption due to the myriad of injuries the Pelicans were dealing with. He played just 13 minutes and scored two points in four games with New Orleans before he was waived once again.

Fredette played in 50 games last season for the Pels, but he averaged just 3.6 points and 1.2 assists per contest.

The 2011 National College Player of the Year was the No. 10 overall selection in the 2011 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings, but he never truly found his footing as a professional.

He has since played for the Chicago Bulls and Pelicans, and now he will attempt to prove he is still an NBA-caliber player by excelling in the D-League.

While Fredette may never be a star, he does have a career three-point shooting percentage of 38 percent, which suggests he can be a solid reserve capable of providing an offensive spark off the bench.

Playing in the D-League is a far cry from where he was just a few short years ago with the Cougars, but provided he receives a great deal of playing time and impresses, it may turn out to be a positive step for his career.
