Jahlil Okafor Hits Heckler on Video Outside Boston Bar After 76ers vs. Celtics

Video footage has surfaced of Philadelphia 76ers rookie lottery draft pick Jahlil Okafor apparently hitting a man outside a Boston nightclub following his team's 84-80 loss to the Boston Celtics on Wednesday.

TMZ Sports had the news Thursday. The 19-year-old was near Storyville Boston nightclub when the altercation occurred (Warning: Video contains NSFW language):

The Boston Police Department announced they are investigating the incident and provided details on the matter:

According to the victim, the incident occurred at about 2:00am, on Thursday, November 26, 2015, as people were exiting the nightclub. Victim states that two black males, one believed to be Okafor, approached his group of friends and quickly began talking to a few of his female friends in an effort obtain their phone numbers. According to the victim, when his female companions refused their advances, a verbal altercation ensued between him and the suspect. During the argument, the male victim states that Okafor attempted to charge him but was momentarily restrained by another individual. Eventually, however, the victim states that Okafor broke free and began pushing and punching him. Victim further states that the suspect struck him with a closed fist and knocked him to the ground. Victim stated he sustained a cut above his eye which later required stitches. 

Boston police previously said they were not planning to pursue an investigation of the incident, according to ESPN

“It was definitely dumb on my part,” Okafor said Friday, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Enquirer. “It’s something that I am embarrassed about . [I'm] still dealing with the league and the team. But I’m not happy about it at all. But we are still going to through the process of what we are going to do.”

"We're still in the fact-gathering process," Sixers head coach Brett Brown said Friday, according to Molly French of CSN Philadelphia. "Jahlil came to me immediately. He knows to walk if he had do that again."

According to the report, the incident started after a man yelled, "The 76ers suck!" at the Philadelphia big man. Someone also "got physical" with another 76er, per TMZ.

"We spoke with a rep for Jahlil who tells us...Okafor says he was being heckled from the moment he left the club and felt threatened because people swarmed him on the street," TMZ reported, adding that everyone left, and no one was arrested.

Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Okafor was also involved in an incident outside of a Philadelphia club in October, in which a heckler pointed a gun at Okafor's head.

Okafor has been part of a woeful 0-16 Sixers squad. It is the first team in NBA history to start back-to-back seasons with such an abysmal mark, per ESPN Stats & Info.

The Duke product is averaging 18.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per contest.
