Spurs G Tony Parker Gets Scared While Playing with Lion Cub at San Antonio Zoo

Kyle NewportNov 25, 2015

San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker is not afraid of going head-to-head with anybody on the basketball court, but that's only because this lion cub isn't on an NBA roster.

According to Lorne Chan of Spurs.com, Parker won the right, via charity auction, earlier this month to name three lion cubs at the San Antonio Zoo. Given that there were two boys and one girl, it was easy for Parker to come up with names.

The 33-year-old Spur named the cubs after the Parker family: TP (Tony Parker), Axelle (after his wife) and Josh (after his son).

Yes, it is a bit disappointing that one of the cubs was not named after San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich. That could've led to some Gronk-like fun.

Parker also got to play with the cubs—and he learned that despite their appearance, they are capable of scaring the heck out of you. Fortunately, the point guard's quickness helped out here.

Despite the scare in the video up top, this was a great experience for the four-time NBA champion, per Chan:

"

It was pretty impressive. You worry since they’re lions, but after about 10 minutes, they felt more comfortable with me and I felt more comfortable, too. We wanted to give back to the zoo, and to have this experience too, it was just unbelievable.

"

The Spurs sure do hope that the lions are comfortable with Parker. They don't need any wild injuries that sideline their point guard for any amount of time as they look to make another title run.
