Daily Fantasy Football November 23: DFS Stock Up, Stock Down

Rob GoldbergNov 23, 2015

It is never too early to start considering your options for the next week of daily fantasy football, especially with so much action on Thursday. Three games on Thanksgiving create extra opportunities to bring in some money, so it's important to keep track of the latest information surrounding the sport.

Although more information will come out during the week, here is an early look at a stock report from Nov. 23.

Eddie Lacy, RB, Green Bay Packers ($4,700)

Although he has been one of the biggest disappointments in fantasy football this season, Eddie Lacy almost looked like himself with a big showing against the Minnesota Vikings. James Starks got the start, but Lacy was the star of the day with 22 carries for 100 rushing yards in a win.

Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy was complimentary of the talented running back:

This is a big change from a player who had lost his starting job and wasn't even active a week ago. Now he has a chance to build on the success with a prime-time matchup on Thanksgiving. Against a Chicago Bears defense that allowed 170 rushing yards to the Denver Broncos in Week 11, Lacy has a chance to put up some more big numbers.

Jameis Winston, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($5,500)

Doug Martin might have had more big plays to finish with 235 rushing yards, but Jameis Winston is the one who put the ball in the end zone with a career-high five touchdown passes. Most impressively, all five scores were to different players.

This last part is significant because Winston had gotten into a habit of forcing the ball to Mike Evans due mainly to a lack of options. However, a blowout win over the Philadelphia Eagles featured the return of Vincent Jackson and in turn a more even distribution among Buccaneers receivers. If he can keep this up, Winston could be set for a big close to the season.

Although the rookie isn't likely to have many five-touchdown games, he could certainly keep up his strong play against the Indianapolis Colts. The defense has allowed multiple touchdown passes in seven of 11 games this year and five of the last six.

As long as his receivers are healthy, you can get some great value from this year's No. 1 overall pick.

Javorius Allen, RB, Baltimore Ravens ($4,600)

Injuries have been devastating for the Baltimore Ravens this season, who lost some key players in a Week 11 win, per Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun:

The Justin Forsett injury means Javorius "Buck" Allen will move up on the depth chart. The rookie finished Sunday's game with 22 carries to go with five receptions, so it is clear the coaching staff is comfortable turning him into a workhorse. Meanwhile, the injury to Joe Flacco will mean the run game and short passes will be even more important going forward.

Considering Allen put together 115 yards from scrimmage against a tough St. Louis Rams defensive front, the upside for a big game is still there.

To make things even better, Allen's first start will come against a Cleveland Browns defense allowing 138.8 rushing yards per game. With a good matchup and great value, the fourth-round pick could be a great option in Week 12.

Stock Down

Amari Cooper, WR, Oakland Raiders ($6,800)

While Amari Cooper clearly has tons of upside, his performance in Week 11 will not end up on a career highlight reel. The first-round draft pick finished with just one catch for four yards while being shut down by Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay.

Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune was blunt in his assessment:

The entire Oakland Raiders offense struggled immensely Sunday, with Derek Carr and Latavius Murray also having quiet games. The problem is Cooper has showcased the inconsistency not uncommon for rookie receivers. He has failed to reach double-digit fantasy points in four different games this year even while using points-per-reception scoring. This is not good enough for someone still listed with a relatively high price tag.

With a Week 12 matchup against a surprisingly solid Tennessee Titans pass defense (just 214 passing yards allowed per game), Cooper should be avoided in daily fantasy leagues.

Lamar Miller, RB, Miami Dolphins ($6,100)

After a change at head coach turned Lamar Miller into an elite fantasy running back, he is once again suffering from a lack of carries.

The Miami Dolphins running back finished with just nine touches in a relatively close game against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 11, his fewest since Week 4. He played well when he got the ball (44 rushing yards on seven carries), but these opportunities were few and far between.

With Jay Ajayi earning more playing time and the Dolphins struggling to sustain drives, this has not led to good performances for Miller.

While Sunday's game was the first time since Week 4 the running back didn't score a touchdown, he also has failed to top 50 rushing yards in any of the last four games. It's tough to rely on scoring, especially against a stingy New York Jets run defense, making Miller a risky pick for Week 12.

Jordan Matthews, WR, Philadelphia Eagles ($5,800)

As the No. 1 receiver in a Chip Kelly offense, Jordan Matthews appeared to be a great bet for a breakout season. While he has shown some flashes, there is no way you can trust him on your fantasy team at the moment.

Aside from a huge performance in a Sunday night game against the Cowboys—which featured a 41-yard touchdown to win the game in overtime—Matthews has been almost invisible over the past month.

The change from Sam Bradford to Mark Sanchez at quarterback hasn't helped at all either with Sanchez instead focusing on tight ends and running backs instead of his receivers. When he did throw down the field, Josh Huff and Riley Cooper ended up with the big gains.

Although there aren't many options for those competing in Thanksgiving Day contests, you can do better than drafting Matthews.
