Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich Thinks He'd Last 'About a Month' as 76ers Coach
The San Antonio Spurs' Gregg Popovich is considered to be not only the best coach in the NBA today, but also one of the best in the history of the league.
However, Popovich knows he has to have some talent on his roster to win games. That's why he thinks he'd have a pretty short tenure with a team like the Philadelphia 76ers.
"I'd last about a month [with the 76ers]," Popovich said, per Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The 66-year-old Popovich made that comment while praising his former assistant coach and current Philadelphia coach Brett Brown. The Sixers coach may love his gig, but Popovich doesn't think he could handle being the coach of a team undergoing a major rebuilding process like the 76ers are now.
Popovich has been fortunate to have a solid core for the majority of his coaching career in San Antonio. On the other hand, no matter how talented Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili are, there's no denying that Popovich's coaching has been a factor in this dynasty.
The Spurs have not won fewer than 50 games in a full season since the 1996-97 season, when Popovich took over in the middle of the campaign. Even though he has had so much success in the league, Popovich doesn't think that he can just implement his system and win championships.
Luckily for Popovich, he doesn't have to worry about ever looking for a different job. He will be able to coach in San Antonio for as long as he wants to be on the sideline.
