Daily Fantasy Football November 12: DFS Stock Up, Stock Down

Jeff SmithNov 12, 2015

As we look ahead to another big week of NFL action, the names on the stock report are starting to become more and more interesting it seems. With a few strong fantasy options starting to slip up a bit and others rising to the occasion, there's obviously plenty to talk about.

With the man above, Dorial Green-Beckham, finally beginning to get some serious looks in the Tennessee Titans offense, how high could his ceiling be? He's just one of a few players trending in the right direction currently.

As for the players whose stocks are falling, well, the most recent performances by these players are an obvious cause for concern, but will they be able to stop daily fantasy players from hitting the panic button? Only time will tell, but let's get right into the stock report for Nov. 12.

Stock Up: Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers ($7,000)

1 of 6

I know what you're thinking. Cam Newton's stock has pretty much been high throughout the 2015 NFL season, right? Right. Well, it hasn't been this high, at least not in a very, very long time.

Newton simply was stellar against the Green Bay Packers in Week 9, throwing for 297 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 57 yards and an additional score. His 104.4 quarterback rating was his second-best of the 2015 season, and he caused problems for the Green Bay defense essentially from the word go.

Newton not only has the Carolina Panthers undefeated at 8-0, but he has this team sitting as a legitimate Super Bowl contender. The defense is stellar, and the offense has gotten to a level where it can match that same level of play. Most impressive of all is the fact that Newton has done this throughout the year without his top receiver, Kelvin Benjamin.

Stock up for Newton, without question.

Stock Down: Ronnie Hillman, RB, Denver Broncos ($4,000)

2 of 6

Someone needs to explain what just happened with Ronnie Hillman in Denver. In the two previous games before Week 9, Hillman had rushed 39 times for 171 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 18 fantasy points between those two games and looked like a player to watch heading into the matchup with the Indianapolis Colts.

Then, it all came apart.

Hillman rushed seven times for exactly one yard in the loss while failing to catch a single pass or see even one target from Peyton Manning. He was essentially nonexistent in this game.

What's interesting to note is that Hillman was listed as questionable for the game due to some type of a thigh injury, but he didn't seem bothered by it during the action. He also received the same number of touches as C.J. Anderson but was obviously severely out-produced.

Regardless, Hillman's struggles are worth noting, but it's not time to sound the alarm just yet on the young running back. One thing to note, though, is that the Broncos now face the Kansas City Chiefs, who have revenge on their mind and have allowed just four rushing touchdowns all season.

Tread lightly when it comes to using Hillman right now.

Stock Up: Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Tennessee Titans ($3,200)

3 of 6

The massive breakout for Dorial Green-Beckham is on the horizon. Count on it. We saw a glimpse of what Green-Beckham is capable of in Week 9 against the New Orleans Saints, as he received 10 targets, resulting in five catches for 77 yards.

We've seen Green-Beckham's raw talent result in some solid games this season, but this was likely his best all-around performance. Expect Green-Beckham and Marcus Mariota to have a rapport that continues to improve over the coming weeks and for him to truly break out and top the 100-yard mark with a touchdown or two sooner than later.

While the Tennessee Titans draw a tough matchup against the Carolina Panthers (and Green-Beckham may potentially face Josh Norman), the rookie wide receiver is still a player to watch this week. Tennessee will also likely be without Kendall Wright in Week 10, as he's dealing with an MCL issue.

Stock Down: Doug Martin, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($5,600)

4 of 6

While Doug Martin was essentially a monster over a three-week span that included games against the Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Washington Redskins, he's done a complete 180 since that point. During that stretch, Martin scored 28.3, 39.8 and 23.1 fantasy points on DraftKings, respectively. Unfortunately, he's failed to top 3.1 yards per carry in the two weeks to follow.

In Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons, Martin rushed 23 times for 71 yards, then he followed that up with 11 rushes for 31 yards against the New York Giants in Week 9. Between the two games, Martin averaged 7.05 fantasy points.

It's hard to imagine things getting much worse for Martin moving forward, as the Buccaneers now draw the struggling Dallas Cowboys, who have allowed 820 yards and eight touchdowns to opposing running backs this season. To top it off, Dallas has allowed running backs to catch 52 passes for 499 yards and two additional scores.

If Martin can't turn things around this Sunday, it's a serious cause for concern. For now, though, his stock is falling, and his play is going to be under a microscope.

Stock Up: Jeremy Langford, RB, Chicago Bears ($4,800)

5 of 6

Have the Chicago Bears found their future replacement for Matt Forte? It seems like they just may have.

Jeremy Langford hit the ground running in his first career NFL start, rushing 18 times for 72 yards and a score while also catching three passes for 70 yards during the Monday Night Football victory. There was a lot to love about Langford's performance, and if Forte remains out for any extended period of time, he's going to be daily fantasy gold it seems.

Now, even if Forte is returning soon, which seems possible, expect Langford to still get his fair share of work while Forte fully gets past the knee injury. As Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com reported, Forte was back at practice Wednesday in "limited fashion," which doesn't really tell us all that much.

Forte still seems highly unlikely for this Sunday, so monitor the situation, and don't be afraid to roll out Langford for another go-round while we await the return of No. 22.

Stock Down: Gary Barnidge, TE, Cleveland Browns ($4,800)

6 of 6

Listen, I love the story behind Gary Barnidge just as much as the next person, but the man obviously struggled a bit with Johnny Manziel under center. While Cleveland's 30-year-old tight end has caught 42 balls for 602 yards and six scores this season, he had a brutal showing in Week 9, catching just two balls for 35 yards.

There is good news, as Barnidge may not be in the "stock down" section for too long. Pat McManamon of ESPN.com reported that if Josh McCown is healthy, he'll get the nod as Cleveland's starting quarterback. The connection between McCown and Barnidge is obvious, and it's beautiful news for his daily fantasy value.

Before this tough Week 9 showing, Barnidge had topped 18.3 fantasy points on DraftKings in six straight games, making him pretty much a stellar fantasy option. If McCown is back, don't be afraid to roster him against a Pittsburgh Steelers team that has allowed 53 catches for 553 yards and seven touchdowns to opposing tight ends this year.
