12 Athletes Living That Hollywood Life
Ronda Rousey, Dwyane Wade and Cristiano Ronaldo are all athletes, but they are also all celebrities. Sometimes athletes become so famous, the line between sports star and Hollywood star gets blurred.
Most of the following 12 active athletes don't actually live in Hollywood, of course, nor are they all actors (except you LeBron James, we see you over there quietly honing those on-screen skills), but their lifestyles are reminiscent of that culture.
Perhaps they are friends with actors or married to models. Maybe they have crossed over into film themselves. Or maybe their athletic acumen has simply provided a jumping-off point for international stardom.
However they got there, these guys (and gals) are definitely living that Hollywood life.
D'Angelo Russell
1 of 12Newly minted Los Angeles Laker D'Angelo Russell is suddenly a professional athlete in Southern California. It's only natural some of that Hollywood life would creep in.
According to TMZ, actor Jamie Foxx helped Russell secure a $5,000 custom backpack by Louis Stewart (which is about as sparkly and blinged-out as a backpack can get).
He's also been the subject of celebrity dating rumors—in this case, involving Kendall Jenner—which is pretty much par for the course with L.A. athletes.
John Cena
2 of 12
John Cena is living that Hollywood life because he is, actually, living it. Not only is Cena a professional wrestler, a form of entertainer in and of itself, but he's also a decent actor.
Cena was hilarious in the Judd Apatow comedy Trainwreck, but it wasn't his first movie. His credits also include The Marine, 12 Rounds and the upcoming Amy Pohler/Tina Fey film Sisters, which looks hilarious.
He also got to body slam Jon Stewart recently, which is not totally related, but still awesome.
Brooks Laich
3 of 12Washington Capitals center Brooks Laich was launched onto the celebrity scene thanks to his fiance, actress and dancer Julianne Hough.
Hough has won Dancing with the Stars a couple of times and is now a judge. Since they began dating, Laich's Instagram features a healthy mix of hockey and glitzy outings with his gal.
Laich supports Hough in her DWTS and Move Live On Tour performances, and he also accompanied her to the Creative Arts Emmys in September (where she won for choreography).
Nick Young
4 of 12Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young is living it up in L.A. He's engaged to rapper Iggy Izalea, and in 2014, the two bought a $3.45 million home that used to belong to actress/singer Selena Gomez.
Young also isn't shy about his partying ways. In fact, "Swaggy P" recently told Jason Feifer of Maxim:
"Oh, man, L.A. is probably the best place to party. Compared to other cities, man, you don't have to party until 6 in the morning to really get the job done, unless you really want to. You just got more variety here, and it's LA—it's still cool at night, so if you want to take your shirt off after you've had a couple drinks and you're feeling yourself, you can do so.
"
Russell Wilson
5 of 12Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson didn't appear to be living too much of a celebrity lifestyle until he started dating singer Ciara.
Now, the two appear on red carpets together and even played in a celebrity softball game. In October, Wilson attended a superhero-themed costume party for his girlfriend's birthday. Other guests included Kelly Rowland, La La Anthony, Serena Williams and Beyonce. No big deal.
Dwyane Wade
6 of 12Fashion, music, red carpets—Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade has his hand in all three.
Wade has become one of the big names in NBA fashion—he made headlines at New York Men's Fashion Week in July, and he is a brand ambassador for luxury watch company Hublot.
Here he is going to a Taylor Swift concert and gifting her a Heat jersey. And here he is on the red carpet with his wife, actress Gabrielle Union. (Although he looks more like paparazzi than a celebrity here.)
Cristiano Ronaldo
7 of 12Cristiano Ronaldo isn't just one of the best soccer players in the world—he is one of the biggest celebrities.
The Portuguese star is, and has, his own brand, CR7. He clocked in at No. 10 on Forbes’ list of highest-paid celebrities (not athletes, celebrities) in 2015. Oh, and there is also a movie out about his life, so there's that.
Ronaldo is not without Hollywood drama, as well. Following his breakup with his longtime girlfriend, model Irina Shayk, dating rumors about the soccer star continue to fly. (Although he's not dating model Alessandra Ambrosio. They just did some type of "secret" project together. Whatever that means.)
Serena Williams
8 of 12Tennis legend Serena Williams pals around with athletes (like BFF Caroline Wozniacki), but she also has some big-name celebrity friends. She vacationed in Miami with actress Eva Longoria in April, and there is plenty of Instagram evidence of a friendship with Kim Kardashian.
Plus there are those pesky Drake dating rumors to deal with.
Tom Brady
9 of 12Tom Brady is married to ultra-super-mega model Gisele—this is not news. However, the New England Patriots quarterback also has some jet-setting, Hollywood ways outside of his married life.
In May, Brady was one of the many celebrities to attend the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight. He flew same day, straight from the Kentucky Derby.
And what's a celebrity lifestyle without a little scandal? In August, a photo surfaced of actor Ben Affleck's nanny wearing Brady's Super Bowl rings on a private jet. Let's be honest. If your life is on Page Six, it's that Hollywood life.
Lewis Hamilton
10 of 12Lewis Hamilton is a budding international superstar, launched from his platform as a three-time Formula One champion.
Recently featured on the cover of Esquire Middle East, Hamilton spent his year hanging out with a bunch of celebrities. Per Mark Wohlwender of the Guardian, the driver has been spotted with model Gigi Hadid, Rihanna and Stella McCartney (also the Fresh Prince).
He's also apparently friends with the Jenner-Kardashian matriarch, which is random but sort of a prerequisite for eventual world domination.
LeBron James
11 of 12Basketball superstar LeBron James has a lot of famous friends, like, a lot lot. He's a celebrity because non-sports fans worldwide know who he is.
He's also doing fans one better lately by getting himself into the movie biz. James crushed his supporting role in Amy Schumer's comedy Trainwreck, and his entertainment company, SpringHill Entertainment, signed a deal with Warner Bros. in July. Cue the Space Jam 2 rumors and hysteria.
Ronda Rousey
12 of 12In case you hadn't noticed, UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has taken the world by storm. Not only has she dispatched of her opponents in short order, but she has also made her Hollywood rounds.
Rousey appeared (along with many other athletes) in the Entourage movie, but she also made a cameo in Furious 7. The latter apparently resulted in a friendship with Vin Diesel, and now Rousey has actually trained his seven-year-old daughter in judo. The fighter appeared on countless talk shows, and she's tapped to star in a Road House reboot.
