Cartwright Ruled Out For Season
Wednesday, Nov. 4
Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported Cartwright's broken arm will keep him out for the entire season.
How Cartwright's Injury Impacts Cardinal
Cartwright was poised to start the season as Stanford's man at the point to replace the school's all-time leading scorer, Chasson Randle, who recently graduated.
During his freshman year last season, Cartwright averaged 11.1 minutes per game playing behind Randle and tallied 1.9 points and less than one assist.
Head coach Johnny Dawkins had the utmost confidence in the sophomore coming into the season, especially after their summer tour in Italy, as he told the San Jose Mercury News' Jeff Faraudo: "We recruited Robert to put the ball in his hands, and his time is now. He needs to be a leader on the floor. He needs to make the guys around him better. Watching him grow the last few weeks and in Italy has been exciting."
Stanford is also dealing with the loss of junior guard Marcus Allen, who injured his foot in October and is also sidelined indefinitely.
Junior Malcolm Allen, Marcus' twin brother, could be thrust into more playing time with Stanford's recent losses. Allen, who averaged less than five minutes per game as a freshman, took a redshirt season in 2014-15 with a broken wrist.
It's going to be a difficult start to the season for Stanford as they are forced to shuffle their lineup further with opening day just around the corner.
A difficult out-of-conference schedule to begin 2015 isn't going to help either. The Cardinal are set to face the likes of St. Mary's, Villanova and either Arkansas or Georgia Tech all within the first month of the season.
