Bart Scott Speaks on Greg Hardy's Sideline Outburst vs. Giants, Calvin Johnson

Timothy RappOct 29, 2015

Former NFL linebacker Bart Scott had strong words for Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy after his outburst on the sideline during Sunday's loss to the New York Giants.

Speaking to Damon Amendolara on The DA Show on CBS Sports Radio, Scott talked about Hardy's need for an attitude adjustment:

"

I see a guy that's immature, and I see a guy that just doesn't get it. I'm hoping he gets it and somebody can be man enough to pull him aside and give him the cold, hard facts: Listen, you're a talented player, but there's plenty of talented players in this league, and the league will survive without you. Once the owners and the NFL decides to say they've had enough of you, they've had enough of you. It doesn't matter what you can do as far as rushing the passer. Ask Ray Rice.

Scott wasn't done there, though. He went on to say that he felt the Cowboys were enabling Hardy's behavior and that his outburst wouldn't have been tolerated by Scott or his former Baltimore Ravens teammates, like Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs and Haloti Ngata:

"

I would tell him, "Listen, man, I hear your point, but here are ours. We have a brand. We have a way of doing business around here. Listen, you can play in this league, I'm sure, but you can't play here if you're going to be like that. You represent all of us. This is our brand. This is how we do business. This is a defensive team. We're together. We all pull this rope one way. If you can't pull that way, bro, bye. Simple as that. Love you, but bye."

"

Scott also discussed the Lions' current struggles, saying it was time for the team to part ways with Calvin Johnson and Matt Stafford, according to Steve Schrader of the Detroit Free-Press:

"

"I think it's time for the Lions to part ways with (Johnson)," Scott said on CBS Radio. "You're not going to win a championship with him. He's just going to get older and retire, and you're not going to get anything with him. He's eating up a huge chunk of the salary cap. It's time to blow this thing up.

"You see (Ndamukong) Suh left first -- I think you have to really consider trading Calvin Johnson if someone will take on that salary, and then you can free yourself up and start off young with a young nucleus again. Maybe get rid of Stafford.

"Right now, you can trade Megatron and get a first-round draft pick for next year and you get cap space. I think that's the smart move right there."

"

Scott, 35, spent 11 seasons in the NFL with the Ravens and New York Jets. He finished his career with 732 tackles, 25 sacks and four interceptions and made one Pro Bowl.

As a former player, Scott offers some insight in this particular circumstance. While the Cowboys have publicly backed Hardy after he knocked a clipboard out of a coach's hand and was seen berating the special teams unit and arguing with Dez Bryant, there are certain to be a number of players in the team's locker room who weren't pleased with his behavior.
